    Well it'll either be

    1. Back to grinding mobs for those merits now that i'm cap level
    2. Time to go back to questing since i got all my quested skills for my job now i need my merits
    3. They rip off DCUOs achievements idea and that's how you get merits.
    4. The thing SE will likely do if it's none of the above.

We're not at the end yet. Lol. There are no limits to break yet.

You realize how long it took for merits to be added in XI, right?

    Thanks Jenny for the enlightment!
Ok, I think I have the grasp on this. Actually, I want to see the game in its final form before seeing anything like Merit points, just to see if we really do need after all the changes we get in the future. I know, half-a**ed answer, but it's all I can suggest.

You can go about it in a completely different way that doesn't involve grinding.
I think its funny how "you people" think its funny that he suggest :

Here is one of 3 quotes in which the OP emplies a merrit system exactly like XI's. So its funny how you fail to think of "grinding mobs". It was his suggestion to make it like XI's that brought up the "grinding mobs" talk. "you people" should be capable to understand that.

thanks. Meaning the devs made the merit system work flawlessly while raising the cap. You made the point i was saying so thanks.

FF14 can add merits no matter the current cap is.

But yea way too soon for merits.
Actually, any form of endgame content that can flesh your character out after it has reached max level (not including gear) could fall under the merit catagory, so yes, many games have a feature like this. I hope they DO add a merit style system in this eventually, except I hope instead of grinding for them, we can quest them. Essentially the point system they have added in 1.20 is a merit style system so you sorta have one now, but I get what the OP means. I hope that, instead of adding merits in the form of stat point bonuses, which materia will always be better for, they add a system that rewards you with unlockable skills that aren't just copy and paste version of other ws animations.

Personally, I like a system that gives you points for XP, and the XP required scales. (meaning the next point requires more XP to get). The points are used to purchase abilites/skills, or purchase traits that raise limits and caps.

What I am getting at, is that if they make it reasonably, I am all for it.

    2. Lets you increase your magic/physical skills, something lacking in this game but this basically pushed your enhancing/enfeebling/elemental/healing/etc magic another tier or two.
    3. Unlocks new abilities or spells, e.g Dia/Bio III for RDM or Freeze/Tornado/etc II for BLMs.
    4. Lets you enhance your weapon skill levels, which basically bumps them a letter grade (which means more accuracy/attack/unlocking weapon skills that aren't job specific etc.)

That's the main purpose of merits, in terms of FFXI's merit system. As of now they also allow you to unlock and enhance your weapon of choice final weapon skill.
There is no reason at all Materia cannot do this, if they want they could make it so Materia does all this.

The new skills/spells I think should be obtained from quests or something not "go kill 5000 mobs and bam u have it"

    That doesn't even make sense.

So magically the 5000th mob is supposed to drop materia with new skills and spells.

People are complaining that Materia is (and will be) better than anything else in-game; So there is no reason Materia can't do it, but if people want the game balanced Materia shouldn't do this, it'll balance everything out if there's some things materia can't do and vice versa.
