Did I say it was the biggest downfall? No.

But I'll be honest when I say it's the reason why I was never interested in 1.0.
Genderlocks are boring and indicative of a lot of other design practices I find distasteful.

Seems to me that FFXI still has genderlocked races going on 17 years now.

Yeah cosmetics has been the downfall of many a mmo. Terrible content and game design were completely fine, but god forbid a race only has the female option. First world problems right there, might as well shut the servers down now.
