Gender locked race?

What the heck are we going to get that is a 'throwback to Ronso' - 'Close to Ronso' but not actually Ronso. This is what gets me. If they were created with the idea to be 'male' only and 'close to ronso' then I'm just... IDK, can't wrap my head around what this race could look like without infringing on Miqote.

Come on now, this has been talked about multiple times in this thread. There are more differences between ronso and miqo'te than there is between miqo'te and viera. If you can't envision how they can be different yet you're 100% ok with viera being added to the game then that seems like severe hypocrisy to me.

Ronso and miqote are both cat-inspired races. :v Bunnies and cats are completely different animals.

I think they mean Miqotes and Vieras are merely humanoid with cat/bunny ears and tails, while ronso have more animal features (face, jaw/ teeth, horn, fur etc.)

Which seems to be FFXIV's way of doing, all characters are alway slender or well built, and the animal "features" are small. Any Hrothgar with a mane would be like this in my mind. Some kind of bulky human with a mane of hair and maybe a lion tail and feline eyes, if we go with the lion route.
Having only one beast playable race with all the other ones being very human based would feel weird in the FFXIV's scope.

Yea, I can't imagine FFXIV going that far in the animalistic direction. It might have fans in the West, but I can't imagine people liking that sort of race in the East very well. With a new race I imagine the goal is to make it as appealing to players as possible. I think most super animal looking races tend to come from Eastern games, though. If by East you just mean Japan then maybe, I don't know many other Japanese mmo's to compare to, but I honestly don't think Japanese people would have any issues with a beast race lol.

I don't know, Japan doesn't seem very big on beast races like that. 11 didn't have them and 14 hasn't had them yet. Wouldn't it be weird to have all these human-esque races and then this one that randomly looks like Tony the Tiger? :v I don't see them doing that. And it'll make girls in japan cry. They want cute stuff.

I mean, considering it's mooostly men playing this game, even more so in Japan, not sure this is a valid point lol. And again, the "East" aka China/Korea/Japan markets have plenty of Beastial characters and races in MMOs. The point of them not having it in the game so far is a different point entirely, but I don't know if that makes it more or less likely to put them in now. Like if the point is we want something completely new, beastial race is a positive. If we want something that's the same as what we have, then it's a minus. So I guess it depends on what side you're on.
