Gender locked race?

I mean, I thought it would cost more resources to create an entirely new race that uses a completely different 'skeleton' + lore + art + possible homeland/location - than it would be to add in half of a race that already has the lore in place, already has the homeland and location. And is only missing the damned skeleton and the obvious tinkering that comes with the skeleton/model.

One already has brownie points and people rooting; another also has 'small' amount of brownie points and is mostly unknown to those who don't bother to check this forum or keep tabs on leaks. I mean, that's just me. Shrug. While Viera, welp - folks who played FF12 + Tactics and all the spinoffs will know about Viera.

Hrothgar may not be the same size as Roe, atleast I hope not, They might not be a "furry" we don't really know at this point. Hopefully something akin to Byakko would be sweet.

As for male Viera we may not get them if the original creator did not want to allow them to be but due to fans wanting Viera they gave what they could. I wish everything works out for most people to be happy.

There was very little about the bunny outfit being unlocked to males that merited hope. Between how long it took, it being played as a joke, and the passive aggressive "worn by: EVERYONE" instead of just removing the gender lock indication from the items...
They were backed into it, they were very unhappy about it, the main reason given why it took them so long was because of how uncomfortable it made their male developers.
You'd think they wouldn't mind as much when needing to design a race that's basically Au Ra with a bit more muscle and long Miqo'te ears, but we might just be proved wrong this weekend.

My hope was more on the fact if they thought 'Male Viera' was weird, just like a 'Male bunny outfit' was weird; that hopefully they got over that crap - or the female's developers were more than happy to pick up the task. So, more 'learned your lesson' and 'get over that fragility' type of deal.

People who don't like gender locks as a practice but are unaffected by male Viera/Horthgar or female Hrothgar are valid as you have no idea why they dislike gender locking could be past mmos that have them that made them not even try, might be they are fearful that SE would be to gender lock jobs could be anything idk and people who are for gender locking Viera and Hrothgar because they don't like the idea of the male Viera/female Hrothgar despite never going to play female Viera/male Hrothgar count for them.

If resources are as finite as they are it would be silly to add a different male race to male Viera as male Viera probably has the highest demand before Viera reveal and after, SE are just setting themselves up to even more requests for both genders that aren't added if they gender lock.

Thing is male Hrothgar will be added at the expense of male Viera no matter how you slice it one was to replace the other due to whatever reason the devs hit with the dart, it is unrealistic to expect 2 full races as there has been no precedent for it but its not unrealistic to expect 1 full race over 2 half races and unfortunately there is no way to know what would be in higher demand male Viera or male Hrothgar but i can make an assumption that male Viera is the more likely to be in higher demand due to how long it has been requested, Hrothgar was not even a thing until the french text leaks and the majority of the playerbase is going to be unaware of this whereas with Viera far more of the playerbase is aware that Viera will be added and no males have been shown(yet?), this will put unease in anyone who is silent but doesn't like stuff like races or jobs gender lock.

Problem with bringing moral into it is that SE themselves brought it into it we have a precedent that the male devs were too uncomfortable with the male bunny suit and gave it to the female devs, Yoshi P also has stated years ago he found male Viera too cute that is opinionated, if male Viera/female Hrothgar does not become a thing it will be down to the opinions of the devs any reason they give will be to hide this fact and anyone who opposes this view has the right to be counted amongst the people wanting these race/gender combos regardless on how directly affected they are, just the same for those who are with this view regardless of how they are affected.

I actually don't think you understood where I'm going with the part you bolded. So I'll expand on that while using a general "you", not speaking about "you" directly:
No, your vote don't count if you don't intend to play as one of the gender+race impacted by the issue and if you are only moralizing it. Simply being against "gender locks" without effectively being impacted by it, and thus trying to enforce the creation of a full gender just for the sake of it existing -even if the result turns out to be complete garbage- instead of another one, means that you want ressources to be put into creating something that you don't actually want to play, at the expense of what other people might actually want.
In short, if you push for male Viera without wanting to play it, you are doing nothing but taking a side between people who want male Vieras, and people who'd like to play male Hrothgar. You are inflating numbers for a side while doing a disservice for the other without any practical reason to do so. Both sides have their rights to want to play something without you intervening to decide what side is more worth it that the other. (Again, general "you".)

I can agree that people who don't have any horse in this race don't need to be part of the discussion, but I also think that you are coming from a very narrow point of view. By claiming that only people who will play the upcoming race-gender combo count, you are failing to acknowledge other motivations for wanting one over the other.

Speaking for myself, I am not going to play either male Viera or Hrothgar. However, out of the two, I would vastly prefer male Viera to become part of the game because I want to have bunboy retainers. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy the fifth slot or repurpose one or more of my existing retainers, but just the fact that this is a consideration for me means that adding male Viera to the game could potentially earn SE a bit more money out of me every month for the duration of my FF14 addiction. There is far, far less chance of that if we get whatever "Hrothgar" is instead because I don't want "new race retainers" I want very specifically "bunboy retainers".

And also, even though I'm probably not going to play one, I'm interested in Viera lore and I want them to be explored further in FF14, both their female and male societies. I don't want to just read about them, I want to actually meet and interact with characters, get involved in quests, see where and how they live, etc. And I absolutely don't want SE to go the cop-out route of "the males (all of them, no exceptions) are so good at hiding you'll never ever meet any". That would not be entertaining, it would be disappointing. A letdown. A Chekhov's Gun that's not going to get fired. I would think of that as poor and cowardly storytelling.

On the other hand, I have no interest whatsoever in Hrothgar lore simply because I know nothing about them except possibly the name. And that may not change until I get my hands on SHB. At that point, I may become interested... maybe... but... that's only a possible future, and this is the relevant present. Viera already exist and I feel a bit of hype towards them. Hrothgar don't yet and I have nothing to be hyped about.

So I believe I have good reasons for taking a side in this conflict. I may not be riding the Viera male horse but I'm still cheering it on.

It's also possible that the decision to add Hrothgar was made before the decision to add Viera.
