Gender locked race?

Since we have plenty of male viera art I thought I'd do a quick 3 min sketch for how I'd prolly do hrothgar based on imaginaaattiiiooonnnn.

I honestly would not want a sexy lion man. Someone posted those fanarts of dreamboat Scar from the Lion King and I was appreciative of the look, but I wouldn't want to have just another human-like race except with a mane. I'm with the Byakko-looking hopefuls camp.

Im curious as to what people see particularly beastly about byakko? Of the 4 lords he's my favorite because sexy naked anime man boss fight feat. heavy bass ...but he's got a human face, a human body, human limbs, human shaped hands with claws, etc. The only non human bits on him are the digitigrade feet, long kitty tail, and tiger arm, and the last one is probably not on the menu.

He's beastly in the sense that he isn't just a human with cat ears and a tail tacked on. His entire body is covered in fur, for starters - that isn't applicable to Miqo'te nor is it applicable to Viera. His facial features are 'human' yet they still have an inhuman twist to them - which again isn't applicable to anything beyond Xaela and Raen men.

Would much prefer something similar to what Shippuu sketched over something like Byakko. As a Trial fight, he's neat that he's mostly human in appearance (Ramuh technically being the last one, if we exclude Ascians), but... well I prefer something different in the playable department (even if it's just the face/head).

Idk man... A different skin color, some stripes, and claws REALLY make all the difference when it comes to looking like a monster! I mean...that Byakko with his perfect jawline and sculpted abs really gives something like Ronso a run for their money.

Again, compared to the existing playable races he easily classifies as 'beastly'. Something being monstrous does not have to equal being unattractive.

in regards to "male viera don't make sense bc lore", i'd like to point out something i don't think some people consider: the lore we're told about is how they are 'currently' and in the past, so who's to say that in the events that ShB brings about, -all- viera aren't driven out of the forest for whatever reason? i mean....our first look at the forest has everything going down in flames xD; i know it likely won't reach further into the forest but there's obviously some shidoodle going down, and the viera men ARE protectors of the forest, sooo...if there's a threat encroaching upon their territory, how they gonna fight if they keep hiding? nah? i mean, just because something is hidden and rarely seen, doesn't mean it's not *there*. i'd wager there's a good amt of male viera, 'cause that's prrrobably not even a very small forest they're protecting. ye? nah?

anxiously eager to find oit what thos hrothgar bs is, mostly anxious bc i'm worried abt what the inclusion of a second race takes away from the first race and/or other content

but i really, really, really hope genderlocking won't be a thing considering how backwards it'd be. if anything, honestly, i think maybe there'd be two races simply because i vaguely recall reading about yoshi wanting his males to be big and strong, not small or effeminate, so the hrothgar could possibly be something big grrrawr to offset the more..possibly dainty..male viera.. that'd be awesome! bc soft males aren't really a thing at *all* in ffxiv unless you count our popotoes. and after au'ra, i really, very, strongly think that the "next new race" to be a giant hulking beast of a man would be.....completely unnecessary. BOYS CAN BE SOFT, TOO, YOSHI ;^;

now, of we have the option of both, that's a *lot* of people happy.

In comparison to the standard races, yeah Byakko is more of a beast, but in consideration of what is 'beastly' by western mmo standards, he isnt. He's to human-esque still.

He really just looks like a JoJo character who is also a furry.
The feet are barely digitigrade too. His leg anatomy doesn't really look like it supports that kind of weight distribution.
