Yea, I just mean that it seems like when SE wants to make a joke NPC, roes are always their first choice. I don't know why they do that. :v
I'm going to err on the side of caution and be pre-disappointed on the race front. I have new music (papaya) and environments (eggs) that look and sound great to look forward to.

I didn't say the race IS a joke i said why people may see them as a joke because the more memorable male roes are treated as such whether by name convention or the way they act you have Mylwerb's right hand man is the most serious male roe you have to interact with in msq followed by Rititayn(lv49 trial), HW portrayal of Gosetsu was a comedic loud man something i'm glad SB didn't add more to, you then have the guy who calls titan Titus, SE's portrayal of male roes is the issue there when they want us to take them serious i will
The problem is Hildabrand is optional you are not forced to interact with him and his adventures you are forced to interact with the above people and male roes in msq are the most comical characters just like lalas are portrayed as money grubbing etc the problem is SE way of writing and portraying them. There is a difference between a joke character and a character with some comedic moments or comedic attributes.
Yes Gosetsu have some comedic moments, but so do Tataru, Magnai, and even Thancred (the whole naked thing). I assume you don't think of them as joke characters?
Difference between all those characters they weren't introduced as joke characters while Gosetsu was he literally got off a boat in a big booming voice said "Is this Eorzea" had stomach pains tried to walk and collapsed face first to the ground i'm glad they changed this he is better after seeing his more dedicated side but first impressions were he was a big buffoon a writing problem that thankfully got fixed i am fine with characters having comedic moments but if the introduction of the character makes them look like a buffoon that is how i would percieve them till proven otherwise.
I do not think male roes are inherently comic relief but the way the writing is with regards to them does not help i'd love to see a male roe become a permanent main stay that i can take seriously i loved Gosetsu in SB and wish for more of him.
Edit: Another thing my 1st impression of Nashu (Hildabrand's assistant) was vastly different from the start of the quest to the end, you can't always judge a book by the cover but 1st impressions are a thing

Guy butt is best butt <3

Again, taking what I said out of context. I said 'I'm not sure about that' obviously stating that I wasn't sure on male roe being a joke; but also going ahead and mentioning characters that were introduced as a joke. Honestly not sure what the issue is here nor why it's something to get defensive about. Two of those Roe's were a literal joke; they existed to just be idiotic comedy relief. As for Curious Gorge and his brother - they are the latter where they had comedic attributes.
Sorry for like, bringing this up again - but I despise it when someone takes what I say out of context and keeps on that directive when it's clearly not what I meant.

As for Viera, honestly, I understand why Yoshida didn't want them to be cute. They shouldn't look adorable. The lore for male Viera has them as cold-blooded killers that were ripped from the warmth of their families and basically thrown to the wolves. They either make it or they die. A male viera will straight up kill you for just crossing paths. I imagine living in solitude for so long would have them be pretty feral and not liking cities that much, and if they are in the cities you're not going to see them. They'd be very adept at 'hiding'.
Of course, I don't agree with Yoshida flinching away because bunny men are 'weird' though - silly thinking.
Pft, can imagine them moving about like assassins creed type protags

That's literally just Miqo'te, though. Albeit with bunny ears rather than cat ears.
Well none of the races stray that far from human but I am glad that viera are tall and more mature looking to set them apart from miqo'te and au ra. I like female miqos and au ra but more variety is good. IMO they strike a good balance between miqo/au ra females and roes/elezen who imo are hard to make look decent. They're both 'humans with animal features' but the height and tone are different enough to stand out IMO.
