So what if... Some or even all of the Viera we have already seen were male?
I mean the Dramaturge said that male and female Viera are indistinguishable until puberty but... he has no idea just how distinguishable they are after, does he? Maybe their dimorphism is something so subtle and hidden that a cursory inspection still wouldn't be able to tell them apart? DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN!

On the other hand, it could be as simple as them not having finalised the assets by the time the preview footage was getting recorded. I guess we might get closer to an answer tomorrow since almost inevitably the question of bunboys will pop up in the Q&A. And then there's about 50% chance of getting teased/trolled and probably made to wait till Tokyo for the real answer.

However, it would certainly be a big, controversial move that might not work out for them in the end.
When I see companies try to start being "inclusive", they usually get bitten by the people they are trying to include for not including some other identity. By definition, there is no limit to the possible identities that may be assumed, from what I've been lectured to about the subject, so it's actually impossible to account for them all.
That being said, I wouldn't be against the concept, but plenty others would be if both male and female actually are the same asset. I already design my character to be a female that looks as male as I could make her.

I dont know why they're being so tight-lipped about this. Why not tease something more... idk, important? It just feels.. weirdly unfair to keep this a secret. If they are able to say "we can't show the new raid because it isn't ready" why can't they just say "we can't show male Viera because they aren't ready"? It will at least let us know that they are coming, which will then build the hype they actually want, rather than animosity.

Saying "male Viera isn't ready" would be a confirmation that male viera will be a thing, when they currently can say that there's actually a male gender locked race. That being said, revealing male Viera will be kind of big not just for us in FF:XIV, but also to FF:XII, since it's not a unique race. It's transplanted strictly from FF:XII. They may want to have some of the directors from FF:XII to be present for a reveal for male Viera, or they may have even been told they weren't allowed to do a male Viera.

I understand it's all SE, but they are large enough to have dozens of studios under them. There's probably all sorts of intra-office politics going on.

eg. USAF has multiple Flights. You can have two working right next to eachother, both with the same aircraft. You may have a jet break, and the only spare part you need is held by the neighbor flight. You go to ask them for that part, but they tell you no, because they want to be able to fix their own jets if they break.

In fact there is a little info that came out today/yesterday (depends on your timezone) that a question was asked about it and the response was something like 'we have another fan fest to go yet'. - Mr.Happy reporting this info.

Yeah it's definitely still possible there are male viera. Although I think that they said literally nothing about males, not even like "oh, we didn't say anything about that?! Haha see you in Japan guys!", adds a bit more possibility to the leak. At least I think the most likely circumstance we'd get two races, if the leaker is right, is via two gender locked races or very dimorphic genders. While the leak has had some errors the accuracy is near impossible without having some sort of in.

Also clans... There is some room for more info and options there. Unless someone has shown that we've already seen the clans, at least imo then they all looked like the same clan. Hopefully it's like Hyur where the differences are larger to add more value to the race. I can't tell the difference from most clans and you could just tell me whatever and I'd believe you without really looking at like "wait, you don't get that jewel option as that type - you lie!" lol.

Edit: I've seen the happy tweet and imo that doesn't confirm much about male Viera. Only that there is more race info to come, which could be the leak for example. I just mean people shouldn't take that tweet as confirmation that they do in fact exist as an option to play.. Just that we will get more race info, which could be a lot of different things - including or not including male Viera.

Errr I didn't say that to sound negative though, just worried people might see that tweet and then be like "SE you promised you'd add it!" haha. However, I do agree there is still much hope to remain for people who wanted X, Y, or and Z. If you wanted male viera, or a short viera, or a lion like race, all of those are still possible as of now - we're going to have to wait since there is pretty much no info on it at this time besides that there will be more info at a later time lol.

Also, I will be royally pissed if it DOES turn out that instead of male Viera we're getting a male-only bestial race, mostly because it perpetuates the stereotype of "Men can be as rugged and bestial as they want, but women have to be gorgeous" so prevalent in Fantasy (Look at Orcs, or Dwarves in most media: Male Orcs look like the Hulk with ugly faces and tusks, women look like...well, She-Hulk, an athletic model; male Dwarves are a little tin can with hair, female dwarves are short and stout valkyries with huge boobs).

A lot of women do care about their appearance, and even those that say they don't will do things that ultimately lend to taking care of their image. I'd say female Highlander and Roegadyn are a happy balance of possessing what are traditionally thought of masculine traits. Female Lalafells are very much short and stout, but lack the large assets mentioned for dwarves. We also have the pretty and fairly lithe Elezen and the male Midlanders are fairly thin and pretty to boot. Male Miqo'te definitely don't fit the rugged and bestial traits you just stated. Highlander fit the rugged, as well as male Roegadyn, but neither are bestial. Male Au Ra come the closest, and still, they're hardly what I'd call bestial.

Final Fantasy as a whole tends to have "pretty" characters. Even elder characters seem to be more on the attractive side; I'd not say Arch Bishop Thordan or Master Matoya look ugly. They look great for vastly older characters and certainly wizened. XIV doesn't seem to appear to support that particular trope, but using it one time is suddenly an overuse in regard to a more bestial race that is locked to males only. Assuming that is the case in the end.

Also, isn't there a stereotype for pretty much everything at this point? Are you implying it's okay to use a stereotype if it's one that's simply seen less?

and they clearly are alright with saying something is not ready yet
