Gender locked race?

You're correct, I always assume a lion simply because Blufever's leaks have been pretty accurate. Although, we don't know the exact information he was going on.

I am on the Blufever hype train as well. I'm excited for these Hrothgar, as critical as I am about gender locks since I do love Ronso and he said they were close to Ronso. To say I wasn't would be lying. But, it still doesn't change the fact that if they are gender-locked, it's pretty damn lame for both sides.

Man, if you have been reading my responses you know I have absolutely nothing against beast-like races like Ronso or Bangaa (both of which would be awesome). But no, no one has been asking for Hrothgar since they were just named last week.

Well I mean people, myself and Theodric the souless duo here at least, have been wanting something for a while now. I wont speak for Theodric but I personally have been asking for something else, in a literal sense, for a while and when Viera came up had asked if we could have something different first or at the same time (but that was like three expansions ago...). As to me Viera doesn't really change up the formula of options where a "beast-like" race would (Miqote is human with ears, imo, Mithra in FF/SE's defense is more beastly in concept as it has the facial fuzz and nose).

I may have not asked for something called Hrothgar, and we're not even 100% confirmed that it will be a thing (just feels like it will), but it may be literally what I've been hoping for this whole time. So while I might not have said "Hrothgar" I could have been asking for it still.

It'd be like saying "nary a soul asked for pizza!!! why add it!?" but in the background some dude Shougun has been asking for food because he's in a food drought. If Pizza comes along and you said no one asked for it I'd be like (and rightly so) EXCUSE ME IM HUNGRY GIVE ME THAT!!! lol

Of course many of us who are excited for Hrothgar are working off of assumptions, and it's important to admit that. We don't know if they're for sure real and we don't know what exactly they'll be, if the info we have is accurate sort of Ronso lion like it sounds good but it could be not .

Anyway, at this time - this soul has asked for Hrothgar . Maybe not in exact name but its possible I've been asking for it for a long time even, like actual years worth of desire XD.

(Wanted to add I'm having fun with the souless part, I've taken no real offense - I hope you don't feel me trying to pick on you lol. We're talking and I'm just saying it's very likely I've wanted this race since 1.0).

I'm also wondering why everyone wants specifically male Viera barring "hrothgar" when we know neither what male Viera or "hrothgar" look like. It seems that some of the community want little cute male bunnies and some want strong looking males like in the concept art. If we get a strong looking race that isn't a bunny, is it the lacking of the ears that will make people angry? Because I mean, they look like elezens with ears in most of the art people are throwing out there.

Edit: and then what happens with the people who want the cute version? I mean someone's gonna lose no matter what.

I think it's because we don't know anything about Hrothgars outside of what that leak said and the French dialogue mentioning a mane. Those asking for Viera males have those concept artwork to work with at the very least

Eh, I mean pitchforks and all that will happen regardless.
Though if we want to get anywhere with them - if there is a gender lock of course - we just start a thread, give support and do it in a manner that is both respectful and insightful. I won't unsub if we don't get Viera; I'll be disappointed but I'll still play and just stick as Hyur, or fantasia if Hrothgar looks acceptable.

I will still give support for male Viera and ask for it to be added; I might complain if the story in the Greatwood area is hindered by the lack of their guardians, but that's for reviews. They've listened before regarding genderlocks, I'm hopeful and optimistic they'll listen this time to add them in - even if it's extremely late. Though I hope it doesn't come to this.

In the end, I'm using this thread to vent and speculate; I find it fun.

So, as I will do what we English are known for. Write a well thought out polite letter - in this case, a thread or a response to one already made - and hope they take note. xD -shrug-

100% Agreed. I'll be heavily disappointed if they decide to go the genderlock route and in doing so completely write out a whole gender of a race whose home we're going to be visiting. On both principle and the fact that that part of the story might take a bit of a hit depending on how they handle that..but regardless I want to trust in SE that they made (or will make) these choices with their playerbase (and their requests) in mind.

Eh, I don't think it's fair to bring up your own anecdote in an attempt to minimize his own feelings/opinions about this. I'm on the same boat that I would be upset if SE decides to not give us male Viera and go the gender-lock route, but I don't exactly agree with the whole "pitchforks and rage" sentiment. He's entirely in his right to unsub if he wants to.

It's more of a "I find it hard to believe you would unsub from this game unless you're bored of it, or disagree with the gameplay changes SE make" (PvP being one example). Unsubbing because a race won't have a male version is silly to me, especially if you like everything else about the game (assuming he still enjoys the game and no male Viera is the only reason he would unsub).

Nope. Male Viera or I leave. Race customization matters differently to everyone and I hope that at some point you eventually do get your beastman race, but right now the focus needs to be on releasing Viera without a genderlock. That's the major thing attracting me about this expansion and failing to deliver that means I'm putting this game on hold, since it wouldn't be different from other mmorpgs that genderlock key things like races and classes.

I think this is most people here. I'm not known for using kind words as I always sound more heated than I really am, but really I'm not so incensed I'm going to drop my sub and demand Yoshi-P lick my boots. I would be very disappointed in him, as more evidence stacks up that he can't separate business from his personal taste (that "weird" bunny comment really gets to me), but I still really admire the man and his creative team.

I'm so excited for Shadowbringers. I love female Viera. I'm sure I will love Hrothgar (provided they aren't just Miqo'te with bigger muscles). I play the game for more than my character's looks, but that is still a very important part of the game for me. I'm still allowed to express my distaste for gender-locks on anything and any race.

I don't like gender-locking races in principle. I can understand why it would be enough to drive someone to unsub.

Honestly, unsubbing is the only way to really get SE's attention. Even if it's only for a couple months it's the most powerful tool consumers have.
