Yes I was more or less talking about open world PvP.
Yeah, i think they should consider adding different servers with different rule-sets so players can gravitate toward the one that fits their playstyle more . A 'one size fits all' mentality is pretty exluding.
This link was Balista in FF11 it was very fun but it died out after 2 years

People use it now for PvP this is an example of FF11 PvP

this was saposd to be Brenner witch was a spin off of Balista but was just used as PvP
PvP done right would be a great addition to the game and would help it appeal to all the PvP ppl out there, PvP done wrong would destroy most the game and why a lot of people came to FFXIV to begin with.
And I think it will take alot more then most people realizes to make PvP effective and worthwhile, without forcing people to do it for gear or unbalancing PvE abilities for PvE use.
Here are the issues I see.
-If they do not balance abilities PvP will be unbalanced to the extreme. (aka thurm can solo the world NMs, good luck killing 1 in PvP)
-If they balance abilities for PvP they just horribly nerfed PvE which will cause an outrage. Example being able to do a 1500dmg attack might be overpowered in PvP it is not in PvE where the mob has massive amount of hp. SO drop it to 600dmg for PvP and you just completly nerfed Archer in PvE.
-If they do not give huge rewards (gil, sp, or armor) people will see it as pointless and will not do it. (ballista in FFXI)
-If they add the rewards that make it worthwhile the PvE people which made up the majority of FFXI will rage over being forced to PvP to get the best gear.
I really interested to see how SE addresses this issue.
Balance and incentive are always important issues for PvP, and i agree with your points. But the point of this thread is more to do with the implementation of Open World PvP and how that could deteriorate or improve the social structure of FFXIV.PvP done right would be a great addition to the game and would help it appeal to all the PvP ppl out there, PvP done wrong would destroy most the game and why a lot of people came to FFXIV to begin with.

I don't think there's much discussion to be had, open world PvP WILL destroy the social culture of FFXIV. It's certainly what ruined Aion for me. Imagine if you will going out on a leve and having a group of 50's camping the spot they know you need and PKing everyone who tries to come by. Imagine going out to gather and having someone come up from behind and kill you while you're mining. People can and will do these kinds of things often with an open PVP world, I saw it with Aion and it'd happen again with FFXIV.
Lets just take an example an poll the dissected results.
Take WOW. Cut out all of the PVP elements, Remove the Barriers between Horde and Alliance so that all players can converse in a "Common" tongue, can party cross lines, and work together to fight against what ever the ultimate threat against Azaroth is.
Would there be mindless yells of "Fuck The Horde!" "Horde Sucks!" "Alliance Noobs!" "Alliance Sucks!"
Or would everyone be a bit more civilized and just have a few joshing comments like we did in FFXI... Like Bastok being Lastok because they were almost always last in Campaign for a long while?
PVP on its own, especially if forced down lines, causes great stress and anti-community strengthing outcomes.
I once saw a video of players having a memorial for a player who died in real life get disrupted by opposing sides just because they wanted to ruin their event. That shit never happened in XI.
And it was as bad as Westboro Baptist Church showing up and spitting on people at a soldiers funeral.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Open PvP is just a bad idea. Add to it the insane balancing act the devs would have to do I don't think it's worth the time.
How do you balance things when everyone can do everything? I wouldn't count on even arena pvp anytime soon since it'd take a rediculous amount of work. Just thinking about it mkes my brain go brblbrblbrbl .. I need some asian mathmatician genes.
I will not heed your worthless cries.
if they implement it like ballista, it might be interesting.
since the goal of ballista was to score the most balls, killing people isnt going to win you the ballista.
And yeah killing people doesn't create comraderie.
I will not heed your worthless cries.
