Like many, this boss annihilated me and my group the first time - but that's what I loved about it. Meanwhile, the other (Hard) dungeon was a totally blind and near uneventful success. On entering the Burn a second time with an experienced group it was a one-shot, yet the boss still maintained enough 'oh no' moments to remain fun. As with any encounter, just a matter of learning. For the mist phase where he's going to charge, the best approach is to have people in different corners (away from eachother), typically at diagonal angles seeing as the AoE's tend to go horizontal and vertical (through the center) mostly. By being split up, you ensure people are always free to unroot anyone caught in the AoE for any reason - all it takes is a ranged poke of any description, even a WHM Aero 1 does the trick. Clumping up together and getting unlucky is bad-news-bears.

TLDR - No, this isn't a 'hard' fight, it simply has more factors to be aware of, and being relatively new means not everyone is used to it yet. It's also less forgiving if people take the mick, seeing as people can get rooted simultaneously and/or acquire major damage DoTs and/or eat continuous rime AoE at the worst of times.

In short - love it. Definitely my favourite of the two new dungeons and fast becoming a favourite in general. First time I got to soak in the view after leaving the underground section was delicious.

If you handle the mud blob add incorrectly its a potential wipe, and how you place the aoes can determine what sort of safe space you have to avoid other attacks. Ive seen groups do these wrong and come awful close to blowing it(and heard tale of people actually failing). I dont mind either dungeon personally, theyre both fine as is.

That's the thing. It's one thing to get close to a potential failure, and another to enter a less telegraphed fight with temp lockout mechanics and eat definitive wipes. Of the two, Mist Dragon is the superior boss-battle. Even when you know the mechanics, still plenty of room for royal screw-ups or accidents to challenge everyone else, whereas my one and only encounter with MrPooBoss involved correctly guessing mechanics and the rest being something that RandoJoe could handle while you're blissfully unaware of what's going on. At the end of the day, music aside (love the ambient creepiness of the (Hard) dungeon, just like its original), I greatly prefer the Burn's bosses. Even the 2nd boss was a cramped panic during my first blind encounter. Just a much more enjoyable experience and a pleasure to experience blind and actually feel bad for not knowing what is going on when it did lead to wipes with an equally blind group.

Having said that, I am not one to spoil it for myself by researching first. Getting new content and wading into it with a blindfold on is the most exciting point for me in games like this (especially as a Healer), mostly because they all eventually get put into farm/or/forget territory so quickly.
