I actually got to do the event today. I earned 42 tickets for something that took like 10 minutes of work. I think it's 50 for the earrings. So yes, since this is what it is, I can appreciate that we got a little taste of what 1.0 was like with monsters in the city, I can see why 1.0 veterans would be a bit miffed by this.

Still, even with this event, I think we can never come close to replicating what those players felt, both when they finally got the earrings and when the servers shut down. It's not a bad event when you can actually do it, but it's just kind of like a sliver of 1.0. It didn't really feel like we were looking back much at how far we had come.

Nothing of this was a taste of what 1.0 was like. The Instance itself is an homage to the GMs spamming mobs in the cities during the last hours of the game. Overall I can understand why they're miffed solely because there is, now that I saw it linked multiple times in this thread, a promised made to 1.0 players promising Seventh Umbral Era items to be solely for them for sticking around including the White Raven Earrings. Also to everyone going "Oh they didn't expect ARR to set off like it did" or "They said ARR not HW or SB" the message was loud and clear to players from the get go; the items would never return in the reboot of the game.

Like I've stated earlier I don't mind in the long run that they were added back but this mere instance with FATEs is such a garbage way of introducing them back. One would expect a game backed by a Triple A studio to at least rehash its assets to try and recreate its fight. Most of it could have been repurposed T9 assets given it actually uses the same map but in true FFXIV fashion we got another lazy "FATE" spam.

I will say the fact that the actual promise from both Yoshida and the confirmation from Bayohne actually came to light, thank you 1.0 forum archives, I can't help but feel that this has just set a bad precedent for the future of the game if they can't even keep promises for their original players.

Also this argument of "Yoshi-P saved the game so he decides what he can do" is half true. Yes he can do what he wants with the game given he manages it but to say he solely saved the game is a lie. The reason he even had a chance to save the game in the first place was due to the Legacy Campaign that the players took part in, had no players taken part in the campaign you be assured that ARR would have never existed for Yoshida to associate his name with. Sure he remade the game into something that was better than it originally was and gave it a good foundation to grow on, which they keep wasting, but were it not for the financial backing from the campaign the game would have died with the Meteor Event

Overall my stance is still heavily on "If they bring it back at least do it the honor of tying it behind something people can be proud of doing not just another FATE Spam" but yet we got the most predictable content: FATE SPAM What I find worse is given their trend with seasonal items these will eventually land in the cash shop further throwing them further into the meaningless trinket category. Actually bit off track here since the mentality is "Well we can't get it anymore so its good to have it back" with people here why can't we push this towards the Mogshop? Why pay when we can earn it in-game thru basic crud like crafting and such?

I don't get how people keep coming to this conclusion. They were going to remake the game no matter what. The game was a blight on the Final Fantasy brand. They had no choice but to save it. It would have costed them a lot more not to.

Ohh I see. I've watched some of the RoaR videos showing what old 1.0 was like and thought this FATE event was trying to make things in a similar vein. Even when watching those videos of old gameplay, 1.0 is definitely something I would have avoided completely -- it looks tedious and unforgiving at best. I am glad that the company and the players had enough faith in it to keep it going.

Of course, some might say "and our faith was rewarded with these earrings...which they now chose to give out to anyone and everyone for a few minutes of work" (rather than a few months). But you really got something much more valuable than earrings. You got a revamped game that was so successful, it has spawned two expansions and possibly another on the way within a year. We might not always agree on the direction the devs take, but we as players are all in it and giving our opinions because we care.

The success of the game is irrelevant to the breaking of a promise, it sets a bad precedent for their future decisions if they can't even honor those made to the very players they relied on for the possible future of the game. Like I've stated multiple times I personally don't care too much if the items themselves are brought back but if they are to be brought back like they did the White Ravens at the very least put some effort into the content they are being dropped from. Don't just tie them to a boring slogfest of FATE spam. At the every least they should have put some effort into making a modern instance of "The Raven, Nevermore" like that everyone could have actually had a small taste of what 1.0 players faced before the Fall of Dalamud. Honestly I'm more surprised that the conversation has changed into the subpar nature of the event itself.

Still my main issue with this whole debacle now has been that the devs have gone back on their word that the Seventh Umbral Era items would never be released again, to me this just keeps setting 5.0 to be a worrisome entry into an already troubling set of circumstances. How am I to trust a Dev Team that can not even hold their word?
