You do not need to have Stormblood to get these. These came out after the release of Stormblood, but they are obtainable in the base A Realm Reborn. Your attempt to use pedantry to justify this lie falls flat.

This still doesn't change that we're in a 4.0 patch series, not a 2.0 patch series.

The ARR content we have now isn't even the same as it was when the game was still in the 2.0 patch series. A huge amount of patches and two expansions have changed so much about ARR. There are new classes, new class abilities, a new race, new features, hundreds of ui changes...HW and SB changed so much about the ARR experience.

    You're the one arguing semantics.

Things change. At one point Yoshida said housing won't be attached to paying a sub, and well now it is...but no one is complaining about that promise being broken because it works in their favour.

I agree the earrings should have been named something a bit different but I also think a lot of people are overreacting on a massive scale. Very few people even knew about these earrings until this thread and much of its entitled and elitist QQ came along. I certainly knew nothing about them despite being friends with players who actually got them in 1.0. They don't particularly care or mind that they're in this year's Rising event. They still have their cheaper sub fee and that amazing tattoo. You know, the things SE handed to 1.0 players specifically to mark their veteran status and loyalty to the game. The earrings were never intended to serve this function.

And if we're going to go nuts about how the earrings are being handed out for free which supposedly devalues them...then we may as well make the same argument for any old content in the game and complain about how new players are getting shiny ponies and birds from ex primals for very little effort. Go on, make that thread complaining about doing old content unsynced for shiny loot. Keep your arguments consistent.

There is something I wonder, where is this sentence word for word in the English post?

    - Plans for the Future
Although some players were of the opinion that the reward was not an issue, many others voiced their disappointment. And the fact that these players came forth is evidence that we failed to give the matter due consideration.

Our legacy players have memories that are tied to that earlier time─I was reminded that the excitement and pride they experienced in acquiring the White Ravens is bound up in the item itself, regardless of its stats or appearance. I, myself, am the sort of person who separates the experience from the physical reward, but that doesn't excuse the failure to consider those who feel otherwise. I intend to learn from this lesson moving forward, and continue to develop FFXIV as a game that everyone can enjoy.

Once again, I offer our sincere apologies to those whom we've upset with our lack of foresight and consideration, especially in a time when we should be celebrating this anniversary together.

It has been five years since FFXIV's rebirth, and nine years since its original inception, and I hope we can enjoy many more to come!

FINAL FANTASY XIV Producer and Director, Naoki Yoshida
I mean, its rather obvious but still, where is that comment about being conscious about the fact that some players dislike the route this game take at times (words for words)?

Are theses exactly the words used in the japanese post that english players did not get but french players got?

This is a really late reply, but for what it's worth, it looks like the French translation treated the Japanese text a little bit differently, and the English is a bit more literal in this case.

The Japanese text goes like this:

    苦しい時代を乗り越え、レガシープレイヤーの皆さんと苦楽を共にして迎えられた新生ですが、
    新生以降も決して楽な道のりではなく、そのたびに僕たちは、等しくすべてのプレイヤーに支えられて、ここまで歩んでくることができました。

This is basically alluding to the fact that not only was the 1.x experience a challenge that legacy players went through, but there have also been bumps in the road since 2.0 as well. And then they follow this by returning to the earlier subject:

    多数のリクエストをいただいていましたが、当時の完全再現は不可能で、それをするつもりがないことに変わりはありません。

Essentially that despite the many requests to recreate the 1.x experience, we aren't planning to go back.

(The English translation conveys these points pretty faithfully, so I'm just summarizing.)

The French translation combined these two parts into a single sentence, and so changed the context slightly. It starts...

"Je suis conscient qu’une partie d’entre vous a un avis un peu mitigé sur la manière dont certains éléments du jeu ont évolué..."

Which is, in a very broad sense, what the first Japanese part is talking about -- that they're aware that the road since 2.0 has had its problems too -- but then they link that directly to the conclusion of the second part --

"...mais nos décisions sont prises et nous ne reviendrons pas en arrière."

-- that the decisions are made and we're not turning back.

In a very broad sense, you can say that the French translation conveys the meaning: the past is the past, and we're going to keep moving forward. But really, the message was about three points: 1) they value the legacy players that stuck with them through thick and thin (both in 1.x and since ARR), 2) despite requests they aren't planning to recreate 1.x, and (as it went on to say) 3) this event is about bringing back just a little bit of the feeling/atmosphere of the end of 1.x and encouraging reminiscing, and so calling it a "replica" would have been more suitable.

I would not say they were trying to make some sort of statement that they are aware people don't like the direction the game has taken or anything that grandiose, but just acknowledging that they've made mistakes along the way and appreciating that legacy players have stuck with them through it.

Anyway, this is basically academic, but for whatever it's worth.

But, seriously, people, what does it really matter? Until they were relevant for the Rising, how many of you even remembered you had these earrings in the first place? If it wasn't for the name of them, I wouldn't even realize they're connected to 1.X. Nobody talked about them. You ask people about 1.0 and you'll hear about the amazing storyline they pulled off in those days. Dalamund's fall, monsters in the city, aetherytes failing, the Great Gobbue Wall. That's the stuff people care to remember, not some cheap trinket you probably don't even remember stuffed in an armoire that you'll probably never even think twice about.

You can even barely see them on glamour. They're nothing special.

I can safely say that, even if we didn't use them for glamour, almost everyone who earned these earrings remembers they had them.

And I can safely say that every 1.0 player I have ever talked to has never mentioned them in any way. Ever.

So I really doubt they mattered as much as you try to make them out to be because it would be something worth talking about. People always mention the Golden Weapons from Ultimate Coil for instance. Whether they worth it or not, people love to show them off. Nobody did the same with these earrings. They exist. Period.
