The irony is that a lot of these world prog groups have meal plans and scheduled breaks in attempts to stay healthy and focused while progging a fight.

Playing a video game for 18 hours a day does not seem weird to you? Actually doing any task for 18 hours straight is abnormal.

Good for your friends and family? None of mine outside of FFXIV really care either, but they also don’t try to dictate what people in FFXIV do or do not care about either, nor what is considered an achievement or fun for them. I would suggest that you try doing the same.

The world first prog raiding scene exists in more games than just this one, and these players very much know how to look after themselves. It's not simply playing the game, but rather competing in a global event (albeit not officially endorsed). These players have schedules, take steps to look after health, and take the time to study and train both before and during the event. Think of it like esports, or even actual sports. Do you think its abnormal or unhealthy for a professional athlete to be committing full time to their sport before or during a big event?

As for your ridiculous comment about nobody caring about the weapons, I don't even know how to wrap my head around that one. You sound like an out of touch parent looking down on a video game because of an article written in cosmopolitan. In reality, these weapons matter in-game to players, they are trophies, and if I see someone with those weapons, I'd get excited knowing they have beaten ultimate and that they are an awesome player. So I guess I care about the weapons despite never having a hope of owning one (I'd certainly try though).

At the end of the day, none of this gear means anything. None of my real life friends and families outside of FFXIV care about beating a virtual dragon.

Good for them if they don’t care. Mine don’t either. The point is irrelevant to this conversation, because it’s not up to your friends or family to define what you find to be fun or an achievement. Nor is it up to you or me. Ultimate not fun for you? Not a worthwhile achievement for you? That’s fine. But it must be fun and/or worthwhile for the people who do it, because otherwise they wouldn’t be doing it.

No, I'm chastising you for trying to speak for others when you say "nobody cares about Ultimate weapons or titles". That's not speaking for yourself; that's trying to defend your position by saying no one cares, so we shouldn't either. Which isn't true.
