    Context and intent are everything.

While the obvious answer to the question is "no", that's without context and/or intent.

If, let's say, I knew a player who was mentioning having real life problems and some of those problems included money issues, I would probably suggest to them - out of concern for their well being - to quit the game in order to save that money.

I'm sure this isn't what normally happens, but the question being presented on this forum topic was whether it was "ever" justified. To which I would say - in some circumstances, it might be.

Yesh, I fall under the former category. A lot of issues going on and my health is tanking badly, disbanded the static, FC passed to new leadership, left the Discord mentioned below (passed on to someone else), the works. I will do my daily beast tribes and the like but the stuff that causes me extreme stress is gone until I can handle it better.

Oh trust me, I was one of those who talked them out of it. They had every intention to delete the character. I won't go into what caused them to feel that way, but know that it was no lie.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

    Your question needs a context.

If the game is doing more harm than good to you (for whatever reason, stress or anxiety could be a reason) and somebody is aware of this and cares about you enough to politely suggest you might want to take a break, then it's acceptable.

In the context of somebody telling you you should stop playing because you are bad or whatever garbage the random typical flamer can spout from their mouths, then no it's not acceptable.

Can't help but feel this is a little bit too obvious to even ask, but whatever.

One thing that is a growing concern (and has been for any mmo) has been addiction. Like smoking, drinking, drugs, video games can be addictive. Now, what happens when people rely on gaming as an emotional crutch is a slippery slope down into depression . Yes this game is fun and yes it’s ok to spend lots of time on it. Where it’s not ok is when you NEED it to fill a void. Some people can’t separate this game from reality. Where that becomes an issue is when people are using a game as a way to get attention . That is risky as we all have our own reasons for being sympathetic or cruel or positive. My advice to anyone who NEEDS this game - take a break and enjoy the real world for awhile. This game will be there when you come back and you will be happier

I can relate to that. I had a friendship that turned sour ingame (I was exchanged for someone else) and a lot of stress with my old FC. (Being Co-Leader and having different opinions about leading a FC) So it started to really put me down. I did not take a break but left the FC and broke the contact with the person and thus started a relaxing way to play this game. Its nice to not constantly feel depressed or teary when you play this game. So you dont necessarily need to take a break or quit the game but sometimes these would be the best ways to increase your health and thus I see no problem with telling someone to quit for something like that. (If its warranted) The problem comes more from people accepting that they have a problem and that the person that told them to take a break or quit dont mean it in a bad way but are looking out for them.

    ___

I am not sure if telling someone on the forum to quit is good. If you dont know them it might just be that it feels like they are only complaining but maybe they are just visiting the forums to only write about their negative points because they want to change it. I do agree that the game might not be for the person if they want a whole complete different game but even then I would not tell them to quit. This is truly just happening if I know that person ingame too and they truly dont find anything fun in the game.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
