I have recommended one friend to take a break from the game in the past. They were a very hardcore grinder and it got to the point that they were forcing themselves to meet weekly caps in the game even though they no longer enjoyed the content. Pretty much every time something new was released they had nothing but negative things to say about it yet they kept playing and grinding it out anyways.

They eventually decided to break on their own and seem much happier now when I talk to them so I think it was the right move.

I don't think it's justified to tell someone to stop playing for being bad. Tell them they need to improve or stay out of challenging content until they improve, sure.
But at the end of the day there's a lot of story content or solo things like crafting a player can enjoy even if they are low skilled.

I have some experience with being told to quit the game by random asshats.

Like the time i was underperforming because of a absolutely ridiculous heatwave and the combination of sweaty, slippery fingers and a throbbing headache from dehydration resulted in my making a number of mistakes, and people responded by screaming about how much of a terribe player i am, that i should stop lying and making up excuses when i tried to explain what happened, and that i should "Uninstall and then go throw myself off a cliff"

Nevermind that it was a one-time incident and i performed much better once the weather cooled down a bit, they didn't care. One mistake will mark you for a lifetime, and if you refuse to quit the game and remove yourself from the genepool they will blacklist you, and convince all their friends to do the same.

If this is nothing personal, wouldnt it be better to just try to answer the question yourself in the OP? Like: "This is my opinion of it......how do you see it?"

Also I am also a bit surprised to see all these threads from you. If this is nothing personal, how exactly are you coming up with them (just curious)? Because honestly when I post in threads I mostly post in those that I have an opinion about and this opinion should be formed through something.

    Anyway on topic:

I do think that there are some very specific cases that justify it.

-If someone loses their health over this, then it would be the best to tell them to quit it or at least take a break.
-Or if they really have nothing left that they will like and will just stay because of not wanting to give it up or because they dont want to lose friends.

I dont think that you should tell it to people that are angry about the game and rant about it (as long as they still enjoy it in ways) because I at least often post negative posts because I do like FF14 and want to still play it for a long time but there could be certain aspects or new parts or developments that could take even those enjoyments away. Most of us that complain and are still playing are doing it because we like it and hope to change something by posting about this and since this is kinda one big reason for the forum you might find those complaining way too much here, which might come of as hating the game while they still like enough but dont talk about because they only have the time to talk about the more important topics which are often those that are not running as one would like. So telling those to quit would be really bad for the game. Because someone quitting is way worse for the game and SE than someone complaining about things. Because then they have at least the chance to make it better.

Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

So why did you lie about deleting your character?

If you lie to people who were supposedly people you consider friends it just doesn't look good on you, you know?

Lies only hurt yourself and everyone else around you.

Alright, I should shed some light on this. The night I was going to do this, I opened up on the Nervous Eorzean. The good folks there talked to me and convinced me that deleting my character that night was a horribly bad idea and that I would regret it. But make no mistake, the intent was to truly delete my character - I just got talked about of it.

No offense taken. At this point, I don't think typing that would've prevented what has happened so far. But it's all good. For a good chunk of my threads, it's usually just a curiosity, either from something I saw in-game, on reddit, or had a passing glance at somewhere. That's usually just a huge basis for my threads, and for the ones I want a pure open discussion about, I try to keep my personal opinion out of it unless it's either directly asked for, or it's something that I want to include in response to somebody.

    Thanks for the explanation.

I still think that with such topics it would be better to post your own view too because imo this would make it look more like an interesting topic and not something that is about the OP itself. But maybe that just me. (I can be a bit strange about such stuff x)')

I have told players to quit. I've told several on these very forums. I tell them that when they express not finding any enjoyment playing the game. If you're bored to tears, constantly complaining, and want the game to change to fit your particular playstyle, I am going to tell you to find another game to play. Simple as that.

In terms of someone who plays so much that it is negatively impacting their real life, I won't tell them to quit. I will however tell them to get out of the house for at least a few hours, and whatever they have going on in the game can wait. If you have a raiding schedule, then redo it. Get the hell out of the house!

I don't know how I would react if someone told me to quit. It would be heartbreaking to come from someone I care about who knows how much I love playing this game and my attachment to my character. From some rando, I couldn't care less what they tell me or think of me, and I would tell them sit on the fist that should be in their mouth. Either way, the reaction wouldn't be good and I'm glad everyone smarter than a troll would never say this to me.

It's something worth considering in the future if I find another interesting topic that piques my interest.

    Context and intent are everything.

While the obvious answer to the question is "no", that's without context and/or intent.

If, let's say, I knew a player who was mentioning having real life problems and some of those problems included money issues, I would probably suggest to them - out of concern for their well being - to quit the game in order to save that money.

I'm sure this isn't what normally happens, but the question being presented on this forum topic was whether it was "ever" justified. To which I would say - in some circumstances, it might be.

Yesh, I fall under the former category. A lot of issues going on and my health is tanking badly, disbanded the static, FC passed to new leadership, left the Discord mentioned below (passed on to someone else), the works. I will do my daily beast tribes and the like but the stuff that causes me extreme stress is gone until I can handle it better.

Oh trust me, I was one of those who talked them out of it. They had every intention to delete the character. I won't go into what caused them to feel that way, but know that it was no lie.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
