Telling a player they should quit? Is that ever justified?

Added a question mark this time. Hopefully this thread won't go the direction of my last one. So this is kind of a two fold question. Is it ever justified to tell a player that they should quit the game? Whether it's followed with reasoning should as they feel the player is bad, or if they just don't like the player, or whatever reason people tend to come up with for things... Is there any situation in which it may be justified to tell a player to permaquit FFXIV?

On the opposite side, as the player being told this, would it be something to consider if somebody approached you outside of, say, an instance or maybe even outside the game, and said this to you. Just curious.

Um...dude is everything ok? Because you have to know the answer is no to this. Like the only time you could justify it is if the player is addicted to the game to a level that it impairs their real life functioning, and they simply cannot take a break. But these recent questions make me worry someone is ragging on you or something. They are just odd.

Taking a break due to medical concerns, sure. But "permaquit?" No.

This game is a way to spend free time, and it is up to the freedom of an individual to spend it.

Let people do whatever they want, unless you know them in real life and you know they have an adiccition and they are losing jobs, people, etc. Unless, no, why the hell you should tell them to quit, even if they are bad players, just dont play with them next time if that bothers you.

Bit of an odd question. Surely you know the answer yourself?

If it's said with malice, no. It's a game anyone is free to play, and no one person is more entitled to play than anyone else, regardless of skill level or personal feelings.

If it's said with concern (it's stressing you out, you're spending too much time on it, etc.) then yes.

Telling someone else to quit [the game] is never justified if it's out of spite or elitism.

However, suggesting they quit or take a break (as a friend) if they're unhappy with the circumstances and it's making them jaded may be more acceptable. I stress the word "suggest," though.

I think someone had suggested I take a break in the past, because I was very unhappy with FFXIV and it is a money-hog. I ended up taking a break for about a year before returning. Even after that, I still take breaks when I need them.

I think I made a friend quit. She spent most of her time in game complaining about how FFXIV isn't WoW, and eventually I grew tired of it. I tried to be patient but she got worse and one day I snapped.

I told her that I didn't want to see her complaining anymore if it had any relation to comparing the game to WoW, that she was very silly to play a different game but still expect it to be WoW and if all her time in XIV is spent wishing she was playing something else then she should quit. A few days later she logged out for the last time. That was two years ago.

Situations like this or when the game is having a negative impact on real life are the only times it's appropriate to tell someone to quit.

I don't know what happened to you OP but if you enjoy the game and real life doesn't suffer because of it, then keep playing.

I would never tell other random players that i just met (in a dungeon) this. If anybody ranomly told me this, I would be seriously offended, and hurt. Then I'd wonder where they get off telling me how to spend my own money and free-time. If however, a friend was talking to me, and letting it shine through that they were not enjoying the game anymore, I'd gently mention it. Why force yourself to do something you don't enjoy?
