Cash shop pricing is getting a bit much...

While all of this is true, I do think it is also important to note that SE has, in the past, used funds from FFXIV to fund other projects, notably FFXV. It’s very likely that a lot of FFXIV’s income is going towards supporting the new FFVII remake. While the Mogstation was responsible for making the EU servers possible, SE’s track record of using FFXIV as a money-funnel for their other titles stands against them. I’m not saying the cash shop funds are definitely going into other titles, but I am saying that it would not surprise me if they were.

I would say a percentage goes to other projects, probably 5-10%, while the rest is used to pay for everything else that goes into the costs of keeping FFXIV running(all the overhead, plus bringing on more people to do additional items). I could be wrong, but that's what I would hope is the worst case. It could likely be 40% goes to other projects(or even more), but we won't know unless they actually release all the data regarding their budgeting and costs.

I would be less anti-cash-shop if

1) there were less frequent updates to it
2) it was mostly for old events

but mostly:
3) the prices were more reasonable
No way am I ever going to pay nearly 2 months worth of sub on a mount, no matter how cool it is.

I was just about to come on here and make a post but I'm glad I'm not the only one talking about it. Why are costumes now 18 dollars? I remember when they were like 6 to 8 dollars. Everything has gone up in price. I remember when Id go to the cash shop and buy like 2 outfits some dyes and maybe a mount for like less than 20 dollars. Now one outfit alone costs more than the total of what it used to cost to buy like two outfits. I buy stuff to support but Im not going to the expensive cash shop of MMOs route anymore and that was one of the draws I had about FFXIV. Every MMO has expensive cash shops and now FFXIV is getting there too. I'm done buying stuff like I used to from the mogstation. This is a bit too much for me.

Also people need to stop acting rudely towards those who are voicing there displeasure in this. If you don't seem to care then that's fine but don't tell others they're wrong for it.

There's not much you can do otherwise. There's nothing short of public unsubbing to protest thing, that can counter people buying. And just buying this set is equal to 3 months sub. I just can hope to ask they don't price things too high.

I've actually noticed a big problem with geek stuff starting to price out its fanbase in general. Graphic novels are one point, paying $50 for a hardcover is not uncommon, and anime box sets are double what you'd pay for game of thrones. I don't want to wake up and find that we now have a two tier hobby.

Past event attire and items are usually $10 USD or less; cash shop exclusives have been $18 USD since the Far Eastern Lady/Lord’s Attire came to the cash shop in September 2016. More elaborate NPC outfits have been ~$15 USD (HW Y’shtola/Thancred; SB Lyse). All account-wide mounts have been $24 USD since Slepnir; the only double-seater is $30 USD (Fat Moogle). The two Magitek mounts are single-character, which is why they are cheaper.

The pricing isn’t really all that new, to be honest.

You can.. not buy things? Look I get you WANT the things kinda. Like enough to pay 10 bucks for them. But complaining that they're too expensive while other people gladly pony up for them is pointless. If they caved to price changes there'd be uproars from all those people who bought things at the more expensive price. And they might sell like 200 more of whatever jacket if they dropped prices, but they'll likely make that same amount of money from the people buying the things NOW. It's not within their best interest to lower the price permanently and it likely never will be. They do have sales on stuff though which shows they understand there's some balking over prices, but if you want brand new things you usually have to pay full price. Right now they're getting a large surge of people buying them, then it'll be a tapering off and when something ceases to be a popular item it'll go on sale for whatever reason they cook up. If you really want it? Wait and you'll see it go no sale eventually. People aren't going to listen to people who tell them NOT to buy stuff because THEY want the price to be lower.

being into anime and "geek" stuff used to be cheap because nobody wanted to admit to it. Now it's cool and it's gonna keep getting more and more expensive, it sucks but it's supply and demand. You'd never have been able to sell a VR headset for 500 bucks 10 years ago, people just wouldn't drop that cash on something so niche. Also the "geeks" are getting older, we're 30+ and have careers now, we got cash and are willing to spend it on some crazy gunk, I'm not surprised the prices have raised.

for better or for worse we're in a culture that is willing to pay for things in bits and pieces as well as things that don't actually exist. I think you can blame TF2s hats for that.

Which is why B&S was very frustrating if, like me, playing with characters' outfits and charisma is what you like the most. Most outfits there are from the cash shop, as the game barely got any worthy update in that sense (at least back when I played).

FFXIV, on the other hand, has TONS of outfits released ingame, either from new patches or from events. The Mogstation exclusive outfits are very, very few (most coming from Korea and China), and not even the best the game has to offer. I for one enjoy playing with characters' fashion the most, yet I've rarely had the need to use the Mogstation. So yes, I believe FFXIV is quite different than a F2P game; I likely wouldn't be here myself otherwise.

retainers and the upcoming app alone makes this game a f2p locked behind a sub (since both of those is a higher cost then the sub itself anyway) mog station is just the icing on the cake on how we have f2p model locked behind a sub.

yeah and doing it for a while is not a real defense either, oh lets make the situation worse by gender lock too.

Why not make them cheaper so more people buy them? just a thought, instead of leaving a sour taste in many.

It's not a precedent, it's glomming all the stuff together and acting like you have to buy it ALL. The pricing has been like this for a while. It doesn't need defense, don't buy it if you don't want to pay for it. If nobody buys it, the message will be sent. If people DO buy it.. guess people think it's worth it.
