I do find those kind of mechanics "entertaining"...like you having to go poo, sleep, eat...not only battle-related content are fun. I do would love having a "Sims mode" here as soon as it had a purpose, like in the above mentioned games. Having a certain mechaniscs "just to have" can be bad (like the current repair FFXIV system), but having it with a purpose (even if hidden) behind it makes ths kind of immersive mechanics 100% valid.
Having to poo in a game is fun...?
I don't need to add anything in this, it destroys itself effectively.

In Baldur's Gate you had to sleep from time to time...your character do would get overly exausted if you don't sleep AND you had to sleep in a proper place (even thoug you could do it everywhere) if you didn't want trouble.

In Digimon World you had to poo from toime to time...just like baldur's gate, you could do it anywhere but you should use the correct place if you didn't want trouble.
The first game might be fun but I am 100% sure that it wasnt the "having to sleep" system that made it fun, I mean c'mon now really?

The second game sounds like a pet game, sure in a pet game the most realistic the better, but FFXIV is not a pet game and I dont want it to be a pet game, whats so fun in sleeping and having to go to the bathroom anyway?
If you HAVE to do somethig that it's not fun in order to bring the rest of the game to the normal levels of fun then why have the system at all?
It's still gonna be the same game after all with the exception of not having to do unessessary stuff.

Well, if they weren't already too old games i'd suggest you to give them a try and see by yourself. ^^ It's like i said...as soon as the mechanics aren't there just "to be there" (like the current repair system, that has no purpose other than gil sink) it does is a valid idea. I do think all basic needs have a space in MMOs...so what if you will need a "poo break" every now and then...at BTN quest you need to harvest yarzon crap...why not just using your own? =P

IMO these concepts don't fit Yoshida's MMO though...he envisioned a pure battle-related, overly simplified, retard-friendly game...for such kind of game would be much easier just giving players "godmode" items and automated play options so the players won't even need to play the game...it would play by itself.

But when a game proposes the concept of being heavily immersive and realistic, like the original FFXIV, these concepts are totally valid.

[yeah, yeah...now we can have a crybaby pause so @sskisser fanboys can say that that was why FFXIV failed]

Now back on-topic...i do think these kind of mechanics are valid...you see, some fatigue system (not talking about surplus) would be very useful to turn long battles more strategic...having people managing their effort instead of the NM "enraging" after 30 minutes would be cool. Getting hurt would be cool, weapons breaking would be cool...

But this all is about what a player want to see in a game. I like immersion and realism...you don't. This is why i've been bothering SE to have the old FFXIV back as spin-off...this way they could cover both playerbase preferences AND have them both focus on the concepts they were built under...Yoshida's FFXIV has no space for surplus, fatigue, action-oriented content, gear management, housing, etc. With both games he should just focus on what the game is meant to be offering...constant frustration, e-peen focus and flawed content...errr...i mean...extremely challenging battle-oriented content with spoils that make them worth doing. =P

Where are you pulling this from? It's in the roadmap that there will be mannequins (gear management) and player housing in by 2.0.

As for Surplus and Fatigue, the overwhelming majority of players voted this out of the game. I think a lot of people are just grasping at trying to keep this game like FFXI where it would take 6 months to level something to 75. I don't know what you mean by action-oriented content unless you mean making this game have platforming elements, which JUMPING is being put into the game.

Yoshida has already given his ideology on leveling in that it shouldn't be such a chore and it should be easy to level up so you can enjoy the game with friends and do the end content together. I can't think of a good reason why anyone should be "punished" , as the OP put it, for leveling up quickly .
