Thank you. I intend to come back to this thread, just not today. Just wanted to ask that question.

And of course there are those people, I'm sometimes guilty of being one of them, who just can't let that fly and start off by trying to simply explain how the former person is incorrect and then you know that person just won't have any of it and, despite all logic and reasoning, will continue their rant and it just goes downhill from there.
Makes sense....I've done the same thing as well. I keep forgetting that once parse is mentioned, it turns into a literal debate.

This will probably be a little deeper than this thread was intended for, but maybe it will be a motivational poster somewhere someday.

As someone with a pretty damn severe depression issue(been to a mental hospital because of it), I know what its like to be knocked off any kind of high horse.

The old saying "actions speak louder than words" is one that has held true for many things as history has proven. Everything starts with mentality. The only reason I can function on a bad day(even with my medications) is because I get myself going into the mentality of "I'm going to do this no matter how hard it hurts."

If you want to learn to be better with people, just fake afk in a crowded area and people watch. Or go to a shopping center and do the same. Just observe.

If you wanna get better at a job, reread all the abilities and look at a few guides. You may learn that things interact in more interesting ways than you thought.

Anyway, hoped that helped. There's my good forum deed for the week. Back to lurking.

because thanks to a parser making you focus less about clearing the content, and more about how you rank compared to others at clearing the content, it made you depressed Kaiva. It made you forget entirely that you managed to clear savage; you got down because for your job, you didn't contribute to clearing it faster than average. And you have people here all sad not that they didn't beat savage, but they beat the fight and on a ranking of players, scored less than average. Don't you see how stupid that is?

People also get happy or sad over the victories or defeats of their favorite sports teams. What people attach value to can be called stupid by anyone, but if it is important to that person, then it absolutely isn't stupid.

The irony here is you aren't entirely wrong. Unfortunately, you articulated it in about the worst way possible. No, people should not obsess over their FFlogs. That being said, some people enjoy competition, even amongst only themselves. While you may find clearing something fun, I would lose interest in Savage if I had no secondary goals to strive for. Sometimes, I go in simply for the fun of it, more often than not I do so to improve as a player, especially on jobs I don't normally play. Does it lead to frustration? Absolutely. But it also leads to excitement when I reach my goals.

In some ways, you have a point. Yes, perhaps it is dumb to value my worth in game through a parser. But do you understand how depression works? This isn't just a switch that I can simply turn off. I can't just go "this is dumb" and the next day, I'll be fine. It may seem stupid to you, but depression is not something easily overcome. Been fighting with it for 6 years. Not easy at all.

Do you really love me that much that you are just looking for excuses to get my attention?

I mean...if someone was parsing they look over to see what numbers they are doing...

    Say it is "4976"....

How does "4976" somehow magically make you know the fight or mechanics and how to do them?

If you can't see "4976" if you are not parsing then how would that make you forget how to play?
"I seem to be doing 4976 on this content, wow, that's great"
    vs
"I can't seem to do 4976 on this content, I know X can do it, *stress*"
    vs
"That crappy dps isn't doing 4976, I'm gonna kick him"
    vs
"Oh that DPS is hot **** and kicking my 4976, wah"

If this was only a question of the first point, most people would not give a care. But apparently some people stress out, or get depressed by the thought that someone is better than they are at content. So close the parser and start playing the game instead of treating it like a spreadsheet.

Some people want to improve themselves and are unhappy about their performance. The ways to improve oneself is by trial and error, practice, and reflecting on one's own failures and mistakes. You can't get better at something unless you analyze your errors and figure out ways to correct them.

People can't always control their emotions or how they feel about something so it isn't so simplistic like you are trying to make it seem. I feel like you and some others in this thread simply don't understand that.

Do you remember the video I posted when I asked for feedback and while the forum feedback was kinda neutral-postive, the comments I received on youtube were not, and then apparently someone took it to 4ch and downvote bombed it some more.
