    1. DCU didn't have that many pre-orders (its current lifetime total sales amount to around 600k with PC and PS3 combined).

    2. The point was that SWTOR has more pre-orders than FFXIV even shipped boxes, let alone sold (which is true).

they were overly bragging about how they had well over a million when it came out

but my point about different game genres and the fact that not everyone cares about every other mmo out there stands

Star wars right now isnt selling based on how great a game its going to be, this is pure fact

Success really does depend on your definition.

for as wonderful as i think ff11 was for me personally i can come across ppl today that call it a fail from day 1

as for 14...to me, it is a success in the making. since the current team has taken over, i can see success happening each and every update. im loyal to ff and thats just me, i cant help it.

many of the other games ppl mentioned in this thread hold absolutly no interest to me, ever, they never would.
    peoples interests are highly individualized.
i play 3 games at present, ff14, wow and rift ,and love each one for certain situations and certain content. and although wow is considered the "most successful" its not my favorite

Not one game has everything i like, i enjoy each one for a different reason. and will remain in all 3 for many years because of that.

will 14 ever reach millions? idk but i also dont care really, i dont see it as a contest or competition (thats SEs job ^^)

it offers some fun and i think it can only blossom into something alot more IF the team sticks at it and revamps pretty much ...everything from the ground up (which they have indeed started doing )

Robert Downey Jr said it best...

"I'm The Dude Playing the Dude Disguised as Another Dude"

It's an MMO, let people be whoever they want to be.

Sort of like how this game sold because it's called Final Fantasy?

Also, DCUO had 94,789 pre-orders one week before launch.

you are missing the point re-read my post. you are talking about current game, i am talking about 2.0. ppl talking about beta testing 2.0 is my point, how can this be a 2.0 beta test when 2.0 will use a different server and game engine, if this was a 2.0 beta test why can't no1 tell me what the crystal tower is like or how well balanced the PvP is.

my piont is you can't say 2.0 will fail because you haven't tried it, and you can't call this a 2.0 beta test, because its not

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

    I'll show you my sources:
    http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales...iverse-online/
    http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales...iverse-online/

Now show me where a million people pre-ordered the game and how 800,000 of them changed their mind at the last minute (since the game only sold 200k in the first week combining both platforms).

And finally, if you know who Biggs and Wedge are, then you know it's possible to like Final Fantasy and Star Wars at the same time.

It's still a bit too early to tell since their grand re-release is at 2.0. It's vision and direction of the game has been completely revised with the change of director/producer. And obviously, all that content has yet to be completed.

I still believe the majority of the market for FFXIV is in Japan rather than all the other regions combined. That being said, SWTOR doesn't list Japanese as an language option for it's releases. http://www.swtor.com/info/faq

So, it won't really have a large impact on their player base as much. Although, it's not to say they aren't aware of their competitors, since they are trying to aim globally.

It's not just trying to mimic, but that their ideas aren't refined but more of trial and error. This might be due to the time restrictions, where they can't really plan out everything and just have to rush out and deliver it. Even more pressure now since the game is live and not only trying to meet expectations of the publisher but also the players.

    Some examples of revised aspect of the game;
-Crafting, such as the re-revisions they had to make to dyes.
-Core battle mechanics, they seems to be still tinkering around with this.
    -Re-revisions to Monster AIs behaviors.

I think it is pretty much a coin toss at this point. A better plan would have been to put off putting out the game in the state it was in on release and just went through with 2.0. This is mainly because SE burned alot of bridges with players when it comes to this game. Now they have to try to get all of those players back and get new players who have already read and heard how poor FFXIV was done and has been. Gonna need to market the game pretty hard.

If we could just get over the class reform hump... I mean seriously, what is this the third or fourth time now? Granted this is clearly the most major since late July. Personally I never had a problem with how the classes worked originally or even after the July update, but trying to stay on subject here, the absolute worst problem since launch has always been content. Although I guess one could argue that guild leves were meant to be the majority of content, but we really could use anything they give us at this point.
