don't feel sorry just gimi a hug b4 i die. i dying here can't you tell all this sheep im eating is hurting my belly.I'm bad at trolling because I'm not trolling... Honestly did you for one second think I was trolling? I mean you should know since you have been trolling the most here...
I do not believe we have reached a high enough level of understanding and release that you warrant the gift of a hug. When you finally break down in tears and see the error of your ways and truly feel sorry for all of the insults/threats and trolling you have done... then you may get a hug.
The cat is bemused =-.-=
You can be standard while still being unique.Yeah, they do need to turn FFXIV into the same MMORPG you've played over and over, this is exactly why everyone wants to play new MMOs, because they want to relive their WoW years with a different storyline.
They can still succeed by trying something different, they have to do it right or else the gaming market would go nowhere, kind of like it did in America to the point of the industry crashing. MMOs are basically a dead genre right now, because of the fact people want the same MMO over and over. There's a reason LoL is doing better than WoW, because it's not trying to become like WoW, it's doing it's own thing.
e: How are MMORPGs a dead genre? Are you crazy? And when was gaming crashing in America? Sources? Gaming has been growing at an exponential rate for the past several years in America, approaching the film industry in size.
e2: LoL is doing better than wow for several reasons. One being LoL appeals to hardcores, casuals, and has a substantial eSports following as well as Riot offering out 7 figure prize pools for tournaments. LoL is also F2P and only has 3 competitors, arguably 4, the 4th being Bloodline Champions. One of the 3 is too copy/paste for most people, one is very dated, and one is in a very restrictive beta. WoW is sharing the genre with a lot of different MMOs and in recent times these new MMOs have been successful. In addition, Starcraft 2 has been growing exponentially as well, so much of the PvP crowd from WoW has moved to more centric PvP games such as LoL or SC2. WoW is not dying, nor is the genre. On the contrary, conforming to standards has made the genre increasingly competitive.

How old might you be? Since a lot of older gamer does remember the video game crash because the industry was basically stagnated to the point it wasn't worth even producing consoles/games (basically, no real market in it.)

When I say the genre is dying, it's because nothing new is really coming into it, because people only want to play "standard" MMOs, you can't be standard and unique, since if all you're doing is copying a previous MMO and adding a new feature, that's not necessarily new and unique, it's just doing one thing different that doesn't really stand you apart, for example if Rift didn't have Rift content and it's skill growth/management style, it would be just another complete WoW clone. Doing something different for example, is like FFXI/XIV did, while XIV could have done it so much better, it wasn't the same style MMO you constantly played.
FFXI was inspired by EQ but they took it a very different route which people either ended up loving or hating.

I'm old enough to not want to share my age with random strangers and unless you're talking like way back pre xbox days, then I seriously don't know what you're talking about. Gaming has been growing quite rapidly in the last several years and when we're talking about MMORPGs, that's all that really matters since the genre is fairly new when looking at gaming as a whole. How old might you be? Since a lot of older gamer does remember the video game crash because the industry was basically stagnated to the point it wasn't worth even producing consoles/games (basically, no real market in it.)

The genre is not dying, there are new things coming in constantly. Rift was a major hit compared to most MMOs in the past. You know why? Because it was both standard and unique. I am so glad you used Rift as an example because it fits what I am trying to say perfectly. Rift took everything standard (UI, AH, Accessibility, Jump, Graphics, Easy Loot, etc), added the "Rift" uniqueness (Rifts, new storytelling, new class system) and people love(d) it. SWTOR is doing the exact same thing, and will also be successful.
I am not trying to say FFXIV should clone anything. On the contrary, for the love of all things that are good, they better not clone anything. But they need to make the game recognizable/accessible to new players, which means conforming to standards. Once they are meeting the standards that have been set by other MMOs (I wont claim WoW set them all, EQ did some as well, but I think even Rift helped solidify them as "standard"), they can start adding their flavor, their "rifts", their "heroics", their "warzones", their "companions", etc.
People can't keep thinking it's either unique OR standard. Using Yoshi-P's own analogy, MMORPGs are like amusement parks. You can have Roller-coasters, tilt-a-whirls, bumper cars, and ferris wheels just like every other theme park, but to attract people to your park you need the uniqueness. But without the standard theme park attractions, you don't have a theme park, you have something that's almost a theme park, that only some people might like because most will be too afraid to spend their money to try it because it's different. You need to be both.
e: Saw your link edit with the 1983 gaming crash and I don't see why that is even remotely relevant to anything being discussed. So, ok there was a crash, but really? Citing something that happened in 83 (before computers were even used) in a debate about MMORPGs is really grasping at straws.

they are replacing the game engine, they are replacing the server, they have already replaced the producer the dev's are working to new plan. to say you know the future is laughable if not insulting, i would let you use my crystal ball, but it takes a special some1 to switch it on :PBut that has been the same excuse we have heard since before the game released, at beta, we told you it was bad, and you guys came back with "Oh how do you know ? a MMO is never finished it will be good at release" then the game released and it was garbage, and you guys said "Oh it just released every other game did in that state(Wish is false!) then the first update came and nothing change, then the second, the third, the fourth, and now here we are, still waiting for the golden patch.
Oh and about Swotor, just from the beta quest, and stuff i know more about its lore, than i know about FFXVI <.< that should say something.
any1 saying we are beta testing 2.0. i have a question or 2
what do you think of these new servers?
do you think this new game engine is any good?
what do you think of the new zone layout. i really want to get your thoughts on the new look gridinia

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
Servers suck, Engine sucks, zones suck, and only one boss battle in the entire game :/they are replacing the game engine, they are replacing the server, they have already replaced the producer the dev's are working to new plan. to say you know the future is laughable if not insulting, i would let you use my crystal ball, but it takes a special some1 to switch it on :P

It really all comes down to the marketing and E3 campaign plans on doing. If they actually put resources into it, they should do fine and the game will be fine.
This is dead on. Well said.ffxiv has no story. its lore is a complete mess and the whole companies thing seems out of place.
SWTOR is just like a mmo KOTOR with a fun PVP thing and -REALLY- awesome group quests.
obviously not the same game but the point is FFXIVs group "instances" suck and get old fast whereas SWTOR can be done multiple times and not get old since how you respond results in diff outcomes. FFXIV has no "deep quests" whereas almost all of SWTOR is "deep quests". Etc.
Even if you dont like the story the point is in SWTOR its there, in ffxiv its not. I -loves- FFXI because it did a great job of telling a story but i really don't give a f*** about some random person in limsa wanting ppl to try her cupcakes so i can spend an hour of my life running in circles for her just to be rewarded with something i could have farmed at level one in 5 min.
And SE doesn't even bother to add in new content or story quests other than a few that can be completed in 3 hours after patch release.
What does XIV have to offer compared to other games?
gameplay is fail to the point where they are redesigning the game
story has -potential- to be epic but is so far pretty fail
quests are complete fail
leves are repetitive
getting to rank 50 takes -no- skill at all really
the "trade"/economy is a failure
I always hope that SE will be like "look we have new plans to fix all this" but they don't. they just say "we have 2.0" which is a completely vague statement.
It will last but not with the player base people are thinking it will have....
You're joking right? SWTOR looks awful. WoW looks better than that pile of shit. Even release FFXIV is better than SWTOR will be. How delusional are you? SWTOR is the biggest joke of a MMO releasing in the history of MMOs. You must not be following the recent trend of Bioware games. Lazy gameplay, simplified to appeal to a "broader audience."
