I think your math is a bit wrong there.
30 plots per wards, 2 subdivisions, 18 wards, 4 housing areas, 66 servers.
That's 285,120
4.2 will be adding 95,040 houses.

I miscounted the # of servers, though it still remains that there are only 4,320 plots per server. On places like Greg or Balmung competition will still be fierce. I'm in favor of letting those who own multiple houses pick 1 personal and 1 FC if they own an FC and the rest are force relinquished with compensation of Gil equal to the value of the house and plot, +25% or so to compensate for unrecoverable furnishings. Maybe un-bind the 'bind when placed' items so they can sell them.

There is a problem with that. How do you compensate for housing items bought in the cash shop? That could get very sticky if SE tried anything without an option to refund the player's money. Even then with how poor the cash shop is with billing and such I still see a real mess.
How is an alt a 2nd class character? And why is my alt that I leveled and geared and worked my butt off for worth less than any other character?
They wouldn't be immune to the rule. It would apply to them as well since the rule is about purchasing houses, and they won't be able to purchase anymore that what they already own.Anyone grandfathered in to be immune to the rules that are being implemented is by default some kind of 'super user'. They own multiple houses in a game where the rules now say you can't do that, and noone else will *ever* be able to be like them ever no matter what circumstances. Sounds like a special player to me.

I feel that's a personal categorisation though. Apart from this new restriction additional characters have always been able to do exactly the same things as the "first" character.
Heck a lot of us probably have "alts" that are more levelled/geared than a lot of peoples only character.
I know multiple people who have "alts" so they can be on multiple raid teams. I know others that have "alts" so they can have all the crafting specializations. You can put your heart and soul into more than just one character. I get sad when I realize I've been spending more time on one character than some others. I honestly feel like I'm neglecting my "alts" when that happens. To me it doesn't matter if the alt is level 1 or level 70, I don't think of any of them as second class characters.

Sadly your definition, my definition or any other player's definition of what is an alt doesn't matter. SE get to decide this, not us.I know multiple people who have "alts" so they can be on multiple raid teams. I know others that have "alts" so they can have all the crafting specializations. You can put your heart and soul into more than just one character. I get sad when I realize I've been spending more time on one character than some others. SE doesn't have a definition for an alt. And restricting housing to 1 house per server per account isn't defining an alt. Is the main the first character on the server? The most geared? The most played? There is no definition from SE on what would make an "alt" vs a "main".

Does SE ever actually call them alts though? As far as I know, they only ever call them characters, they never give any sort of primary/secondary distinction.
So unless I'm mistaken by SE's definition there are no "alts" in the games, to them all characters are equal, alts are just a term we've added.
