In all honesty, I pretty much agree with everything you've said there and yeah, well said it is too. Have a well earned upboat.

There's a reason why I'm probably the biggest casual raider in the fc I guess Whilst I totally want the same end goal as you, I'm jaded enough to feel that we aren't going to get there in one leap, rather I just feel that playing the long game increases our odds of actually getting there.

Trust me, I get the intent by the OP and by you. If they added a personal parser in the future, I'd just support the decision. It's not a step in the wrong direction, I'm just a very determined person and obviously would like to see more.

Who knows, playing the long game with SE or the community might work, and while it's not my ideal way, it doesn't mean it's wrong either.

Despite my incredibly blunt and direct way of speaking, I'm glad it didn't put you off.

I mean that's fair enough. I'm the same as you, I think a full blown parser would be useful. But, I'm trying to come up with a good stepping stone because like Sebazy, I'm willing to lay money on that SE won't go straight to full blown parser. Besides, they love to do things in convoluted and messy ways (See: Glamour Toilet, etc), so I see no reason why they wouldn't take a more convoluted approach as opposed to a simple "Unmitigated parser for all". Nah, that'd be way too simple for them.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

You contribute nothing and are bumping the thread. This is counterproductive to your implied values.

aside from that, I'd like to restate. I WANT them to stop at personal. I want the choice to be a min/max-er or the choice to get into the insanity that is bleeding-edge high-difficulty run mentality to be up to the player.
Now in the past I've add my two cents and agreed that: People should be able to do this IF THEY WANT TO. It should be available across all platforms and nobody should be forced to participate.

A full parser but you can turn it off individually would be fine. A full parser but you have to mark it as activated for the PF. A full parser ONLY active in savage+ difficulty runs. Both fine.

A system that will force people across the board to post up easily antagonizeable numbers constantly is a poor solution for "these people are under performing". Negative reinforcement is one of the things I hate with a vengeance and that's how that will go down.
It's very rare for people to offer well thought out and constructive criticism in online communities. The people who DO are probably already using FFlogs and sharing information. Giving a tool to lay everyones shortcomings bare, without regulation or option is a recipe for many unhappy players. "I don't want to try new content with randoms, people are such jerks about it." "We don't have enough people to run *thing*, lets not do it, I don't want some jerk(s) giving us shit all night".
The amount of people I encounter who offer unhelpful and negative criticism in all games I play encourages me to strongly dislike anything that might give them ammo.

and before anyone suggests the common denominator is me and hey maybe I need to improve , I take criticism well. If it provides any kind of suggestion on how to improve I'll try it. Through this I learned how to tank better, and in many games I've significantly increased performance. But I've never been told "God, you're a shitty *class/character/job* and wandered off to go find out WHY that person has said that JUST from that comment. "LOL our dps has 200DPS lower than me and I'm healing". I'm not asking that person for helpful tips.

Think a boss who will hit harder if you hit them hard or reactively put up shields. Sure -you- get better but your party won't and take the hit. They would anyway if your only purpose is getting better on damage. Good dancing > 2 bigger left feet.

It's a team mode, anything personal isn't good. And most importantly, this is a video game. It's all assigned numbers, you're not supposed to get better. Michael Jordan never beat himself, just ask EA.

NO, SE just implementing features 2 years behind players' requests.

I asked for personal parsers because SE seems hellbent on not adding actual parsers.

At this point, I'd take literally anything that would actually allow me to know how much damage I'm doing from second to second without having to resort to a 3rd party option...

    Two thoughts here...

    1. People who want to be jerks are going to be jerks regardless of how much ammo they do or don't have. If they're in a party that isn't passing a DPS check and they have no parser, they'll just vote to kick the DPS playing the class perceived to be the weakest.

    2. I'd be more on board with the whole "don't let people have ammo to be toxic" idea if tanks and healers weren't already subjected to this exact sort of scrutiny all the time. Adding some means of judging a DPS' contribution would actually be leveling the playing field to be equal to what tanks and healers already experience.

That said, I'd still take anything that actually allowed me to know how much damage I'm doing from second to second, period.

    1. True, jerks are jerks and will be no matter what we do, but denying them one more thing to superficially bitch about is a good thing.

    2. I tank too. I don't want people ALSO bitching about the DPS I'm doing/not doing in addition to how I don't use cooldowns and/or should pull more stuff. I imagine a parser would also be able to tell you how much the Healer is overhealing or not contributing to DPS, that sounds like extra unfun they don't need. Saying that those classes suffer so DPS should too isn't a great argument. You'd be adding grief to everyone's life if this couldn't be turned off.

I think it's very important to provide the functionality everyone is asking for without auto-opting in everyone.

I like how you get a speed rating for how quickly you killed the second boss in the Temple of Fist, because it actually feels reasonably difficult to get the best rating.

Part of me kind of wishes they'd have rewards for speed clearing content, but I feel like that could possibly breed just as much toxicity as a parser.
