I wonder if the robots will be able to cast magick? Since robots do not have Aether, unless they develop some kind of tech that allows them to use magick.Hmm the HW Hildi story comes to mind for some reason. Gigi says hi.
It's fiction, not RL, they can come up with whatever they want for whatever race they want to bring in. Looks wise they could make'em look like anything as well and "gear design being a pain" won't be anymore of an issue than it is currently for any race. If it's worse, that's on SE for making it that way to satisfy their own masochistic tendencies.
Seriously? Because we don't already have magic manipulating tech already in the game... The Garleans, and the Allagans say hi.
Another problem would be "emotions". Robots can't have them by default and even then, seeing how WoL is the bestcourierbud for everyone, you need to show a lot of emotions in story cutscenes.
Looking at a male robot from PSO2 - i think that will be hard to implement, unless they go with human-like faces.
Example - the first screen with female from PSO2(previous post) or character from Star Ocean 4:

Again, Gigi says hi. Essentially a robot, and one that demonstrates emotion without a full human face to boot. Kinda like the rather featureless lalas we have running around now. Despite the fact they would be the RL equivalent of a 2d chibi anime character brought to life in the 3d real world we still have them.Another problem would be "emotions". You're making a lot of assumptions, and about what they'd even look like too. Like I said before, this is a fantasy world, the real world does not apply. They can make anything they want as a race and make it work. The only thing limiting them is their imagination and what they're willing to do.
There was a human-size version of those in Final Fantasy IX and they look ugly af.Again, Gigi says hi. Essentially a robot, and one that demonstrates emotion without a full human face to boot. Last time they used "their imagination" we got Lupin(Highlander with dog/wolf face?) and Koujin(TMNT ripoff?). -cough-
I don't believe that SE will come up with something good or unique in terms of races, especially robot-like race.
TL;DR Viera looks like a safe bet for them, honestly.

Not really just give them like a ankle chain and end off. If we wear earrings why not ankle thingys instead of shoes Lol
Lupin would need every piece of headgear redesigned for them (their head shape would clip headbands, eye patches, and the odd face framing headgear as well). Honestly most folks in the thread have already said if the feet is really the deal breaker with Viera we could live without them as it's been proven they had normal feet in their original Tactics Advanced incarnations. We are flexible. Most of us would like to see the taller warrior aesthetic rather than it be another chibi waifu because that's how they're presented to us in all the games, as strong female warriors. So if they need to change their feet to be normal, fine. That can just be the FFXIV twist on them or a return to their roots.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Lupin in the future, but flesh them out first. Give them a deeper lore and more backstory, more legends. At least make them a beast tribe so that we can learn about their culture and form some kind of attachment to them.
You mean exactly like miqote? :thinking emoji:
Honestly you can just use the miqote helmets with some extra room in the front for the muzzle if applicable. It's not difficult.
Not even really set on Lupin though, just anything but viera please.
If UsagiAndCrepes post is anything to go by, Viera will probably be no taller than a Highlander (and slightly shorter if we remove the stiletto's/make them plantigrade). I also have a feeling that if they are made the new playable race, the females will be struck with the cute waifu virus, while males are left alone to look closer to the original source material (according to an interview, Lakshmi had a different design, but was changed because 'it wasn't cute.' We've also already seen what happened to the Au Ra).
This should apply to the Viera as well, since the Ivalice in XIV and Ivalice in Tactics Advance and XII are not the same (different lore and legends. Lupin currently have the advantage of already existing).I wouldn't mind seeing the Lupin in the future, but flesh them out first. Give them a deeper lore and more backstory, more legends.
Because we then go back to my argument of 'gear not matching.' Imagine a Viera wearing tank gear, completely covered in armour... and then their feet left unprotected.
