Not sure how a Robot race would "fit" in FF XIV. That's why we got only Human-like races(imo).

It's fiction, not RL, they can come up with whatever they want for whatever race they want to bring in. Looks wise they could make'em look like anything as well and "gear design being a pain" won't be anymore of an issue than it is currently for any race. If it's worse, that's on SE for making it that way to satisfy their own masochistic tendencies.
