The current system makes it pay to hoard for reselling later (and even though it's against ToS, how often do people even get dinged for it?), and there are good things locked behind said system. Certain plants to grow yourself? Need a house for that. Company Workshop for your FC (for exploration stuff)? Need a house for that. I mean if apartments had the ability to place outdoor furnishings (such as a gardening plot, as well as share tenancies), and therefore housing was purely a status symbol (for personal housing, compared to apartments), I'd be more than happy to give up my house. But, at the same time, a revamp of housing is needed.
