Keeping control on every mob at the beginning of a pull is limited to GCD though which for some reason a lot of people don't realize.

No tank can keep control of every mob if a healer puts regen on as they pull if the mobs in the pull are too spread out. If the mobs are too spread out you cannot hit them all in one GCD so then you need two GCDs.

If the healer regens the tank just as they pulled and the tank missed 1-2 of the mobs due to them being too spread out then those mobs the tank missed are going to be loose and run after the healer. This is not because the tank is bad, but because it is factually impossible to hit all mobs in a pull with one GCD if they are too far spread out.

If the mobs are all close together and you can run up and overpower/flash/unleash and hit them all then there is no issue, but not every pull in this game you are able to do that.

I mean yeah, in the end you just go and chase down the mobs that went after the healer, but you still lost control. Objectively it wasn't the tank's fault though since only the healer has the power to just wait until all mobs have been hit at least once by the tank which I see you understand and agree on that point. We are all limited how many actions we can take in a certain span of time because of the GCD timer.

I mean aggro generation is a fuzzy concept at best for people new to the genre. Attacking the monster and getting its attention is easy to understand. So is the harder you hit the monster, the more it pays attention to you. Tanks have modifiers on their skills to help them keep the monster's attention even though they (should) do less damage than DPS... kinda obtuse, but most will get it. Healing your allies also gets monster attention, and lots of it- huh? The small heals that keep ticking over time generate a ton of monster attention? What? Why? It's there for mechanical reasons, not for logical ones in most cases- dumb beasts attack what's attacking them, not the guy who's ignoring them to heal their allies right? So I give new players the benefit of the doubt.

For the vets and the people who ignore me when I tell them to stop that nonsense- I hope they stub their toes and eventually learn why they shouldn't do it by getting one of those Pregen healers if they ever try to tank.

I'm thankful that this game isn't like WoW and some other MMOs where the dungeon trash hits so hard that the healer can get dropped in two or three hits.

I don't often run into healers who pre-HoT me before pulls, but it's not often an issue even if they do for the aforementioned reason.

That depends on the situation. If there is a pack of mobs stacked up close together, I'll face pull with Flash. If there's some distance between them, I'll Shield Lob the most important mob first.

I admit I haven't, but that doesn't discredit my point. Regen is a non-issue that doesn't cause nearly as much aggro as people try to make it out. If you can't adapt to it, you're a bad tank.

It kind of does discredit your point since you didn't read the discussion to know why people find it annoying. I'll give you a hint: adapting to it isn't the issue, no one has a problem adapting to pregen if it happens.

I mean it is really easy to call someone else "bad" when you yourself have no idea what is going on.

It kind of reminds me of this one time before SB doing leveling roulette, when a healer got mad at my PLD and called me a "bad" tank in Qarn normal for not using Shield Oath. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i just wiped in ala mhigo because of the regen. after the second boss, we destroyed the wall and we headed to the next 2 groups of mobs (into the room with the huge robot). the group right before the room was too spread out and i didn't hit everyone with my aoe, the healer pulled them with regen, i was in the room with the next pack. and we wiped, because i got no healing at all... i have no idea, i guess the healer was busy healing himself instead of bringing the mobs to me or whatever...

it's actually really simple: if you want big pulls, don't disturb the tank while pulling. this goes to the DDs as well, who likes to run ahead and pull face aggro and start attacking before the pull is finished and ripping off enmity... this all requires work from the tank to compensate. but if the tank does that he gets hit too often while pulling...

It's been pretty much impossible to get healing aggro in WoW since the first expansion if any threat has been made. Overhealing doesn't generate any threat and healing has a 0.5 threat multiplier on top of that.

Haha, never had an issue with regen aggro. Can be dangerous in Ala Mihgo and other dungeons where mobs aggro just by stepping into their aggro range. I usually ask if the healer wants to heal large pulls or chill out and netflix it up but this is a great way to get back at tanks that just rush in and assume the healer is ok with it. Haha I might level up my WHM just to troll, get kicked and requeue like nothing happened, huehue.
