We seem to already be considered the elite - at age 35-40, with kids, jobs, other games and hobbies, we are too skilled, too hardcore, too invested to be allowed a difficulty or raid design that challenges us.
And this is why I always hesitant to use the term "casual" unironically when talking about the average playerbase. Playing only a handful of hours a week doesn't mean you can't perform well. Unfortunately, the devs aren't catering to casual players who simply lack time, not skill, but people who flat out don't care. I mean, even the recent potency changes on DRG are basically a hand out for people who frequently miss positionals. What irks me is the false dichotomy that challenging means another Gordias, where A3S and A4S decimated the raid scene. There can be a good curve without going towards either extreme. I do also think raids should offer more and move away from "catching up" per se. Granted, if the one super savage encounter works out. Perhaps that can be the gear progression a lot of raiders want; something to actually use those 345 weapons on.

Lol nope. I'm all for casuals having more and more content to do, but if it's labelled savage, you should expect something savage. 3 and 4 are decent but it is completely justified for raiders to be disappointed with 1 and 2.

Also I'm pretty sure that 99% figure that randomly pops up was probably for A3S, so why we're still applying that to raids I have no idea.

Thtat's because the g1ear you receive is the reward for doing the fights, it's a different intention than what you have from wow where you need to be at the boss ilvl drop to beat him. which according to method and exorsus is a very bad thing

But is savage raiding meant for the whole player base? Isnt it always more for a certain group of people?

And even though I dont raid I can say that the rewards dont really feel that great. If I remember it correctly you dont even get a complete different gear set for beating savage? Does this one even give a mount? Its kinda strange that the so called hardest content in the game has less unique rewards behind it then for example PVP. And I am not talking about limited rewards but at least something that a raider can show of for a time till others can do it unsynch.

On top of that two of the four floors seems to be quite easy (never did it myself so can only talk about the things I heard) so I can understand that some raiders feel disappointed in this, especially since the other content in this game does not really give you a challenge.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

There should be a "Super Savage" raid (1 boss) update in 4.1.
Maybe beating that "thing" will get some people a feeling of "accomplishment", but let's not be hasty.

There is a mount for beating the fourth tier of savage - it's that feathered snake thing you fight in the first tier. With the armor, the only difference is that it can be dyed whereas the normal delta armor can't be unless you get that special dip or wax or whatever it is, also currently only available in savage.

And I think they are working on a super savage boss fight? Ozma savage was hinted at a couple times, but who knows.

    - Omega gear is dyeable (Doesn't help how hideous most sets are)
    - The V1S boss is actually a mount drop from V4S
    - Neo Exdeath is exclusive to Savage

Outside titles and the thrill of completing harder content, that's about it when it comes to rewards. Considering only two fights pose even the slightest challenge though, it's a little underwhelming. I actually like V1 and V2, but they just roll over two weeks after release.

I'm expecting it to have a pitiful participation rate unless it gives extremely exclusive gear.

I was playing the game on lunch but was the first encounter or coil, and a1s extremely hard to start of the raid ? I mean I have done them sync but of course over geared but those encounters didnt seem to be so difficult themselves so why are people downgrading V1s

    I'm with you, sort of.

I think it's just the naming convention vs expectation thing. There's no difference between say OS2 and calling it Catastrophe Extreme, except the method of loot acquisition and the loot lockout.

If they put more effort into their 24 man's and labled them as the "raids" whereas Omega remained in some sort of weird "trial" boss offshoot then I think less people would be complaining. Obviously this requires man power and money Square doesn't have or isn't willing to expend so we have to just temper our expectations.

Raiding this way is fine in the sense it gets you to the meat of what most people want quicker, if that's not for you this might not be the raid scene you are looking for.
