But id does not work:http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post4334155
They do it for a reason. I don't think it's ideal, but meh, it's working for them.
thats the one thing that bothers me is we can level all classes on a single character but they put soooo many restrictive things that keeps you only having 1 job geared with the weekly limits, would it lessen the queue problems if we could properly gear a Tank/DPS/Healer instead of being forced to choose one?
How do you feel forced to log in every day when you are sitting at the weekly cap? Just log in once a day and run just 1 roulette, the expert roulette, and by the end of the week of doing that, even if you only had an hour to play per day, you would be capped on tomestones. One weekend of running the raid with FC mates and that's it till next week.
The gating is not designed around people gearing up every class, its designed around letting people have breathers to go do something else and not burn out on FF. And if you want to "explore" other jobs then you got the uncapped tomestone gear and ex primal gear which is sufficient for the first couple floors of the savage raid. Only the best of the best gear is gated.
You answered your own question. I am not saying I have no ability to cap, keep in mind I am questioning the concept itself because it does not let me gear more then one job. Log in in once a day to do expert roulette is still feeling forced to log in everyday, a concept that contradicts the video I was shown. How do you feel forced to log in every day when you are sitting at the weekly cap? For your second point, having this gating is exactly what is happening, people are getting burned out with the gating, feeling they need to log in every day because of the gating, getting little return because of the gating, unable to gear more then one job because of the gating. The gating is burning people out. (having to do the same thing every day)
outdated gear is gated though, the delta normal is gated and it is 4th (or 5th, depending how you look at things) rate gear, 340 salvage > 330 creation <> (depends) 320 penta meld > 320 tri meld> (in most cases) 320 delta normal. Gated gear was outdated in this patch before you could even obtain it (320 delta normal body)
So I guess I have to ask again, why gate? it is pointless, harms the game, and the game contradicts itself having these gates (being able play all jobs on one character)

Ugh. Why is it, Square, that I don't have an edit button so I can edit my post and add more? Your phone forum layout sucks -.-
To tl;dr my expansive answer:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
S-E is known for being silly as heck about their ilvl and invalidating their own gear for those who want to gear up and have a goal to play the game in the form of ilvl advancement.
Yes, it does. Citing one person doesn't change that, especially seeing their post is wrong. For the umpteenth time, only Savage recommends a higher ilvl than 290. Every other piece of content can be completed with the gear you receive from your job quest. If you aren't a raider, 330-340 is simply overkill. People queuing for dungeons don't care what your gear is provided you can get the job done. If, by stroke of bad fortunate, you get someone who whines you don't have 330 gear for Ala Mhigo. Ignore them because they're an idiot.
The Omega normal gear is intended only has an alternative to its crafting counterpart. It's for those who can't or simply don't want to pay the inflated MB prices. Pre-Stormblood, crafted gear remained over 1M for several weeks.

Do you have any kind of evidence that it harms the game, financial or otherwise? Excessive gating can to be sure, but coming from WoW? XIV has always seemed extremely lenient in that regard.
Whenever this topic comes up, people always seem to act as if gearing is the only content available in game. "Oh no! Reached max ilvl! Guess it's time to unsub!".
Obviously content can be cleared in gear provided by the easily farmed Verity, so no one truly needs to go higher. However, plenty of people want to be able to bring their absolute best to the content of their choosing (even filthy casuals like myself). As it stands now, alternate jobs suffer with gearing due to the caps, and it's very easy to feel forced into playing only one or two jobs as that's all you can gear efficiently.
It absolutely does work. It's worked for almost 4 years for them and they aren't going to change it until it stops working for them.
A few people having a complaint about it isn't going to make them shift gears and completely overhaul the system and anyone who expects otherwise is kidding themselves. The vast majority of players have no problem with the way the game's pattern and gearing goes. It's a solid business model and they have zero reason to change it.
There are plenty of reasons to gate it, such as keeping players consistently playing, which in turn keeps them subscribed for longer. That's the primary reason it's there, and the primary reason it's not going to change. Because doing so would actually be harmful to the game because it would affect them financially, far more so than those who might leave because they can't gear all their jobs in a week.

You are stating why gating is not needed. You said yourself you only need above 290 if you do not salvage. But if you do salvage gating impacts you. So why gate if for most people it does not effect the game? for the people that want to salvage more then one job, why gate them from doing so? No one has yet proven why gating is a benefit. It only harms the game from it's own concept, being able to play any job on one character.Yes, it does. Citing one person doesn't change that, especially seeing their post is wrong. For picking on what I quoted, that quote was the one linked to me, so I was commenting on that.
Do you have any proof it helps? it clearly is a strain to keep doing the same thing over and over again to some people. How many people that effects varies and the only way to prove one way or another in an absolute matter if SE tries to cut out gating completely for a cycle. You can theory craft either way and there be disagreements to both.

It works in terms of making people sub longer and making more money for the company. That's what I mean by it's working for them. What I mean is if it wasn't working financially, SE would change it. The other thing about SE is that they have to be careful because PvE is the main focus, compared to Blizzard where they have more options.
