This is from Yoshi.. I just feel we should have Wyverns as a for a MMO game.
I'm taking what Yoshi-P said at face value: TESTING. I seriously hope the prototyping results show that the original jobs do NOT deserve any kind of rebalance for a pet. If a Wyvern as a combat pet gets added, I'd rather it be optional for PvE combat, and not usable in PvP. That way, the stats do not hurt the Dragoon as a damage dealer.

Sevo, if we're going to have another Wyvern-based DRagoon job in the second Final Fantasy MMO, it's not going to really do me any happiness. Know why?

In about 5 to 15 years from now, there will probably be another Final Fantasy MMO in the works. I don't want the "original Dragoon" (Kain, Freya, etc) to have missed out being a staple in the MMO genre for two, god forbid THREE times in a row...

P.S. Yes, I am capable of thinking that far ahead...the wyvern has had its heyday in FFXI, let Kain and Freya have their glory now.

Can't we have our kain/freya dragoons and fight alongside our wyverns too?

Yes this is actually a possibility, if other classes can summon chocobos to their aid in battle and not take a hit to dmg, in the later version of XIV why can't us Dragoons have us a Dragon/Wyvern to do the same that is EXCLUSIVE to our job and not take a hit to our dmg.

I am talking full customizable just like chocobos with name and armor.

And when I say Big, I mean big enough to knock over a conga line of chocobos with a sneeze...

And when I say intimidating, I mean they should cause the City Guards to wet their pants with one glare...

And when I say mountable/aerial combatant, I mean they should be rideable by Dragoon, and they should be powerful in mid-air combat. (Garuda, I'm looking at you~)

Basically, I am not against the idea of a Kain/Freya Dragoon having the option to have a strong wyvern at their side that does NOT cause problems with balance.

Here is a list of requisites:
    1. The Dragoon should be able to fight on their own on equal footing against other classes and PvE enemies without the wyvern.
    2. The Wyvern should be restricted in PvP (aka, not summonable)
    3. The Wyvern's main purpose would be the mount to the Dragoon as mounted cavalry.
    4. The Wyvern is capable of fighting on its own, but not capable of winning ANYTHING on its own. Period. The Wyvern should be used primarily as a PvE/Lore device, not an actual combat pet class. (That role is reserved for Summoner and Beastmaster, folks.)
As great as that sounds the players would then pull the "Their pet is cluttering up my screeen" cries

After the updates I retract my statement, that would make the pet almost useless :<

I understand your concern about Kains and Freya not being able to have wyverns by there side in the game but you also have to thing that Freya (FFIX) and Cid (FFVII) where not called Dragoons but just had very great skills with the Lance. As for Kain in FFIV I do not know because I have not played the game yet. But you just can't say that just because Freya and Cid, Not counting Kain, did not have Wyverns that the rest should not have Wyverns.

You can also take into count that since FFXI most of the character that with with Lances Had a Wyvern on there side. Ex: Fang. Yes I know it was only a Eidolon Summon but still. I am not saying that she was called a DRG but she still had a Wyvern as a ally in a since.

Note: Dragoon and Dragon Knight are both the same thing.

And frankly, shame on you for using Final Fantasy XIII as an example...in my eyes, your credibility just went down the toilet.

They were called Dragon Knight which I believe is the direct translation of Dragoon JP > EN

Edit: I also found this pretty neat for those who use "They never had them before" as their arguement

    Google FTW

Dragoons are powerful physical attackers that wield various types of spears and lances. They wear special armor meant to invoke the imagery of dragons, including helmets shaped like a dragon's head, spikes, and wing and scale designs. Dragoons are sometimes more directly tied to dragons, such as owning them as pets or otherwise befriending them. The trademark ability of Dragoons is Jump, which allows them to leap into the air, avoiding attacks while airborne, and descending later to impale enemies and deal heavy damage. Some Dragoons can upgrade Jump to Double Jump, which does increased damage. Another recurring Dragoon ability is Lancet, sometimes called Dragon Sword, which allows them to attack an opponent and drain their HP and MP to heal themselves
    More Google Facts

In their first appearance, Dragoons are not a Job but a group of spear-wielding dragon riders who fought alongside wyverns. The Emperor killed off most of the group out of fear, leaving only Ricard Highwind and his adopted son, Kain.
