I agree with you on this. DRG was not "popular" for a very long time, and I was ridiculed despite being able to out parse other DDs with ease. With skill and decent gear a dragoon in XI could be an impressive DD or a decent DD and healing support. Dragoon got the "lol" status after they nerfed the /sam - penta issue leaving them with no real 2 hour ability and a wyvern that in many situations could not survive AoE. I think dragoon was "gimp" in a sense at that time, but only because they got screwed on some abilities. I think that did a lot to create a negative attitude most players had toward the job. I would hope if they decide to add a pet it does not turn out this way.I do no tknow why people considered Dragoon as a weak DD. It was not. With the right gears, Jumps provided extra TP boost, which allowed Dragoons to spam WS a lot. There were so very many times where I've outparsed SAMs, WARs, and DRKs on my DD in so many endgame events. All it took is the right gear and right skills
ToAU changes made Dragoons even more powerful than ever. The access to Askar Body, most notably (Double attack and Store TP), as well as Ares Body, with refresh, which made dragoon/mage even more powerful (with refresh they can heal almost indefinitely). Finally /blu made it a very powerful DD and ability to heal others through the wyvern.
Personally, I'm okay with either. Dragoons should never be considered as a 'pet job', it is still a DD with a companion (the wyvern), that provides little DD power, and yet powers up Dragoon's abilities thanks to recent changes. Most notable example: Having Wyvern out will greatly power Spirit Jump and soul Jump. With Wyvern out, you get the following bonuses: you could get almost 100% TP from both Spirit Jump and Soul Jump as they provide huge bonus. (Spirit Jump would receive 2 times the tp of normal jump while Soul Jump would receive 3 times the bonus.) Plus, Spirit/Soul jumps would be 100% critical hit

Bottomline is: Dragoon was never a gimpy DD despite the fact that they have a wyvern. They were still an extremely strong DD, despite the fact that most of the FFXI players were too busy going "loldrg" to care.
Also, FYI, Dragoon in FFXI were almost exactly the same as typical Final Fantasy Dragoons. Wyverns only made it slightly different.
I support your support of... umm... supportive underwear as long as I can have green.

Yoshida Naoki: Yes, the lancer is going to be the main dragoon class, plus another class, so you have to achieve those two in order to walk the dragoon route.
The dragoon will be a critical hit damage dealer. They will make the most powerful critical damage to enemies. However, they need to do combo attacks and if they are successful, then they will bring the most effective damage to the enemy. This attack is unlike the one from FINAL FANTASY XI. When they are successful, then they can make this really powerful damage.
But we are fully aware of players that are really looking forward to the dragoons jump, we are looking into possibilities on how we can show that aspect to the players. Regarding 1.20 and 1.21, we are thinking about what we can do with the graphic engine… But when we make the new graphic engine, releasing with 2.0, we are still thinking about what we can do, so we are aware of that element as well.

SOLUTION! Give dragoons a self or party buff that WHILE It is in effect has a Pet Wyvern floating alongside you as its visual effect. Something along the lines of...
Wyverns Cunning
Increases Critical Hit Rate, while lowering Defense.
30:00 Duration, :30 Recast
That gives us a nifty little companion, but doesn't need any weakening of the class.

DO people just think the the wyvern damage just doesnt count or something? Yes you are slightly weaker, but the pet makes up for it. And if all you care about is parser #s...well consider adding your pet damage to it and you will be surprised. I just dont get the idea people have in their heads that if they are weaker, then its all hell and they would never think to say "well its my pet so thats also my damage".Ok so there are alot of posts here an im just skipping to the end.

really...i dont get it.
No one truly understands this community lol. The Dragoon would be weaker, but the damage is made up with the wyvern. People see the words "weaker" and say "NO GET WHAT IS CAUSING IT TO BE WEAKER OUT OF HERE" basically. Unless they make heavy modifications to the way critical hits are handled in this game or they just don't care for balance, Dragoon will get nerfed very quickly if it's a critical based job.
Know how Archer got nerfed because of basically bringing about the apocalypse? Yeah, Dragoon will be next in line. In FFXI, the wyvern was literally essential for solo play, because it gained access to restoring and healing breaths, which if it was done by the Dragoon itself, guess what would happen? You not only drop your overall damage in order to use a breath move or restoring ability, you also lay yourself open for attack, whereas if your wyvern did it, you're free to do whatever after a simple cast of dia.
The one thing people still keep forgetting about, is the only reason pet balance is off in MMOs is because of people complaining that they would be overpowered. It's not because they're hard to balance in terms of coding, it's because it's hard to meet a perfect balance that won't cause people to complain.
I don't really think many of the anti-wyvern people are against it purely because their DPS will be shifted. That's silly. Please stop arguing it just because it's the easiest and shallowest of the anti-pet-class arguments to attack; these threads are ridiculous enough already.

I would like Pet, share the pet dmg when its out, and full dmg when its released., i wanna stand out as a different DD, not one with MNKWARARC.
