Oh boy there is alot of interesting comments on this thread, but maybe some input from a player that actively plays on Mateus. These two super buyers are getting alot of hate over something that they did a while ago. It's not their fault. If they want to keep them, that's fine. But what IS their fault, is their bad attitude towards said salty players.

Earlier tonight I read their tumblr post, and my heart sank. https://seraphaltima.tumblr.com/
I understand why they don't want to give up the things they rewarded themselves, but im very worried about what they are going to do when shirogane opens. Are they going to buy out another entire ward because 28 houses isn't enough? I just relinquished my current FC estate to someone that didn't have a house for free. I did it hoping that I would be able to provide a house for my FC in Shirogane. Reading all of this feels like im getting my hopes up, and more so the lack of reply from square.

With how busy Mateus is now there is absolutely no way they will get 28 houses in Shirogane... at least not in the same ward and honestly even then. Anticipate a player queue that night. They only got those plots because the server was a ghost town.

Honestly, the stupidity of the people demanding that these two players be punished or have their housing taken away... its just beyond anything I've ever seen. No one gave a crap about Mateus or its housing until all the Balmung refugees decided to flock there. Now all of a sudden everyone is up in arms about the number of houses people can own per account and how selfish and greedy these two players are and blah blah blah blah blah.

Its not selfish to work hard for something and not want to give it up just because someone else thinks they are entitled to it. Its not greedy to take an unwanted resource and make use of it. When they purchased those houses that ward had sat empty for months. Leave them alone, they worked their butts off to accomplish what they did and I personally think its pretty darned cool.

Why would they bother getting homes in the new area? They wanted to be left alone, to build and grow their corner of the world. They did the work, they are still working.. it's not their fault SE allows this sort of thing to happen or has such a limited housing issue going on. The best advice I can say is just keep checking the wards each day and hope one turns up. Even with the new area I have little hope in my fc getting the manor we've saved up for and the gl is just sitting there.. As much as I would love to set up the large house with everything my FC needs rp wise and utility wise.. I'm sure I'll be waiting and hoping that some large house opens up outside of the new area.

They can get a total of 4 more houses between them (16 possible per account x 2 - 28 already known) provided they don't have more in other wards already. When Shirogane opens up I don't think anyone's going to sit there and watch them buy up all the housing even if they decided to move shop.

The interior of the house is already an instance. All SE would have to do is make the exterior part of that instance as well and tell the current owners the new way to access it. No need to buyout and force existing owners to start over. You will lose the neighborhood feel but that can be managed as well. Just make the current housing entry areas like the various lands/cities and allow all users access. If you keep the beaches, shops and other things like that as a communal area it should be more vibrant than the currently empty wards you see on many servers. Add a gate that lets you pick whose house you go to and it is complete. To help vary the look maybe allow an option to see your neighbors houses like they do in Wildstar.

Offering housing to all players would bring a ton of player activity to neighborhoods. I think that's a big part of why it's a ghost town right now; everything is spread out across 12 wards and I'm guessing a good portion of the houses are owned by people and FCs who are mostly inactive or never visit them. Giving everyone access to instanced housing with non-instanced neighborhood hangouts would immediately breathe life back into all of these empty areas.

The current wards could be snipped so that you access the entrances and a small common area which has the vendors / boards in them, so you can still see your neighbors then wander down a path that gives access to the instances.

They could also get a bit more creative with the plots. An island with a beach that can be decorated for one, maybe a little village? It could also mean that the inside and outside of the houses could become one thing with functional windows and balconies.

They could also more directly monetize multiple houses on a character so people wouldn't need to stuff around creating alts and fc's that are only used for extra homes, like Rift does.

Don't be stupid. Not only would them buying out another would be nearly impossible with the increased population (the reason so many ppl are throwing their little fits), but additionally they would need an army of alts ready to do so. It would be two people vs all the salty players. Regarding their "bad attitude" towards salty players, they were (probably still are) being chewed out for something you admit is not their fault. Cut the guys some slack. I doubt there are many people who would take that kinda junk without batting an eye, and they are allowed to stand up for themselves.
