These players have done nothing wrong.
They played on a server with plots that were available for a very long time. The system allowed them to buy them and they maintain them.
Now that people have come into the server in great numbers, I really hope they are not being harassed.
The housing system has many flaws and this is just one of them. Maybe something like this will encourage them to give the system some huge upgrades, like Alt sharing and storage to name one.
Technically... I own 4 houses. The FC house (which I consider all members who pooled the gil to be owners) my personal house, my husbands personal house and 1 alt's house. I have full and equal rights to all of them even if my name isn't there. SE lets me and since the housing system is so very limited, I fill the void with more plots.
I worked hard to get these plots too, I transferred to a congested server and through diligence, patience and a little bit of luck I managed to get them somehow as they relinquished from other players one by one.
I actually took a break and lost a medium plot last year! Totally my own fault but that's life.
Right from the start I would have preferred a tiny instanced cottage that you could upgrade with a lot of time, materials and gil. Add new rooms, make rooms bigger, build your own gardening plots, expand everything! I don't care if I have to gather 1000 soils to make a huge gardening patch! It would have been more engaging then a rush/competition against other players for plots where we cant even determine which way the house faces or bans us from using a glade style house in the mist ><

I'm with Niqote.
The only reason this is suddenly noticed is these "dead" servers are getting an influx of players. So, savvy players who, in the playground that is FFXIV, had the option to buy plots and focus on housing on these tiny servers.
This is literally why apartments exist.
Supply and demand, y'all.

That is pretty disgusting. They shouldn't be surprised that people are upset with them. There is literally no need for that many homes. If it's an alt issue, I'm sure you can easily house 8 characters in 1 or 2 large houses.
Though, on the other hand, no one should be harassing them. This might open SE eyes a little bit more, and might get them to address the real issue.

I too would love to have multiple homes. I have the gil to buy probably 6 smalls homes but I won't because I know how limited housing is and I'm not going to lock out FC' just so I can RP in em. Apartments is not a fix to housing imo, they're just expensive FC rooms & FC can hold more room instances than 1 apartment alone.

How is this possible? I thought it already was only possible to have one personal house and one FC house.
I am with you on the instanced house. It would make the house more personal and give a player a goal to work towards in addition of the other gosls in this game. Downside is it would probably be more restrictive on what you can do and place in your house as well as who could see it. Would feel less like a community though. I do actually like walking around and seeing everyones yards and get ideas from that.
Really SE needs to invest in more servers for housing and add some more wards as needed. Also Its pretty rare that people own this many. I have seen FC buy a FC house and then its members buy up houses around it. Ultros had a couple wards that are basically owned by one FC. At least they used too not sure anymore...
Edit:
Actually something I was thinking about the other day is. Lots of new players are coming over to FFXIV from other MMO's. Lots of old players returning as well. This was a successful expansion in those terms. But is SE ready to handle that many people? Servers having issues, congestion etc etc leads me to think that maybe they aren't ready for the influx of new players.
