Zenos was a boring anime villain to me. Everything he did was mostly from some fighting anime and he even had the confused thought he was your friend. I rather take an Eggman type villain than another Zenos anyday. Atleast Eggman is funny.

confused thought?
He was right about that friendship part.
It's confused cause they aren't friends. In what way is he friendly? Did he buy you drinks? Is he protecting you from your pissed off GF? Did he order you lunch and housesit? NO! He flat out tried to kill you every chance he got. Just cause he thinks you're his "rival" doesn't make him your friend. Standard badguy anime thing 24.
That's the beauty of an RPG; If he says he was my friend then by the Twelve he was my friend. Just because he doesn't meet your definition of friend doesn't mean he doesn't meet my twisted definition. It's confused cause they aren't friends. In what way is he friendly? Did he buy you drinks? "People have the right to choose their own path to destruction."
? But the story didn't change for me and you tho. We both had our characters fight the same anime badguy who we couldn't beat because of plot until plot said it was ok to kill him. And we both had to read the same lines he spilled when we got to him at level 70. Maybe I'm just harder on my badguys as he did nothing for me but prove FFXIV villains are manga villains. :c
Haha, you and I are two completely different people with two completely different outlooks; It's only natural we'd see the same thing two different ways.
While my character may have fought him because it was the right thing to do it doesn't mean she wanted him dead. Maybe she agreed with him to a point? Maybe she's tired of all this WoL stuff? Like I said, that's the beauty of an RPG, it's a role playing game, I can interpret however I want to a certain extent. In the end my characters actions may be dictated by the story written but I'm free to think and feel however I want. ^^
And maybe he was a bit cliche but I happen to like that archetype, so he was A-OK in my book.
"People have the right to choose their own path to destruction."
hah. I see your point. I'm being too disconnected and only looked at it from a writer's point of view. It's hard not too since I draw comic books, so it's hard for me to just escape into another world. So in parts like these I don't look at my character as a different being.. I looked at it from only a gameplay view.
The greatest of rivals are the best of friends, because they exist to elevate each other to new heights. All Zenos cared about was finding someone he could compete with, even if he had to raise that person himself. It is why he had so much vested interest in Fordola, and why he had so much vested interest in the WoL. It is why ultimately he saw the WoL as his friend, because after a single trouncing the WoL grew so much in a short time span. Zenos saw that this person would finally grant him what he had been desiring for so long, what he needed to feel whole. It's confused cause they aren't friends. In what way is he friendly? Zenos does not give even a tenth of a fuck about Garlemald, but he does like picking up the underdogs and nurturing them to be something greater. If they have the potential.
