Most of companies aren't releasing a 14th instalment in a game series that's several decades old that's also whyYeah I already brought this up, it actually violates certain laws within Japan above all. Though honestly, Square gave the most compensation that any company has with MMOs, they gave over a years worth of free playtime -- most companies sell off their MMO or shut the MMO down if it didn't meet expectations.Shutting down XIV straight is just... not possible. But I do agree that over a year of free playtime is already very nice.

Not true. They could pull the plug at any time. Shareholders will not go unheard if CEOs and the like wish to keep their jobs. They probably won't because SE wants to recover from a very embarrassing launch and prove the fruits of their labor worth doing, but that doesn't mean it is impossible. It could still happen.

Off course if you take it this way, they could, just like Blizzard could close WoW tomorrow if they wanted to. That's not the point here, off course we all know that any company can shut down any product when they want. The fact that XIV is a part of the main FF series kinda forced SE to fight in order to try and improve the game. They aren't doing it just for the small XIV fanbase to be happy, but for their overall image, and for all non XIV players but fans of the FF franchise. SE just couldn't let a "numbered title" in the series just vanish like that. It would be a shame for SE and to the whole FF franchise. (we all heard Wada already)Not true. If XIV was made by a smaller company, wasn't a "14th" but a #1, I hardly doubt it would still be living as of now. The company wouldn't care. When you start a brand new project that's not a part of the series, if your whole concept fail, you just give up and move on to something else.
Not true at all, for most of people maybe, but not everyone. We have seen that a lot with artists releasing their work (could it be music, or books/comics) for free and leaving the consumer the choice to give a little something (sometime a lot), or just get the stuff for free.if given a choice between free and paying for something, people will always go with the free option
Surprisingly enough, lot of people are willing to pay if they enjoy the product they got. The same goes for donations when it comes to freeware, lot of users are will to help the authors.
Off course that's far from being the majority, we all agree on that![]()

This gives me an idea for an Operation: OSE movement... XDThe OP's suggestions are decent, but I don't think they go far enough.
Therefore, I have put forth some additional demands that I feel my $12 entitles me to (beyond playing the game):
- Manditory GPS trackers on Yoshi-P and each team member so we know where they are at all times and can gauge their sleep/work/freetime ratio.
- Personal phone numbers and e-mail addresses of each and every FFXIV dev member so that we can reach them at home and demand status updates on 2.0.
- VPN access to all the dev computers so that we can make changes to things we aren't happy with.
- Access to all SQEX employee vacation/personal time off records, so that we can approve any time away from the project.
- Access to all SQEX employee medical records just in case they try to take a sick day - We need to be able to verify that they are telling the truth.
- A large monitor wall where we can post images of ourselves so that when the workers enter the building, they can bow to us and sing a song in our praises.
- Motivational posters like this one in every cubical, and on every desktop wallpaper.
Yeah, and just imagine the webcam getting hacked so everyone gets forced to watch pr0nz... lol

The difference, though, is nobody would ever think to demand Blizzard shut down WoW. It is far too profitable. If SE's majority shareholders get tired of the company hemorrhaging money trying to keep XIV up, they could very well demand the company pull the plug on this project. Not saying it is going to happen. Just that it is a realistic possibility, numbered title or not.Off course if you take it this way, they could, just like Blizzard could close WoW tomorrow if they wanted to. there will be people willing to donate, you always have those types too
but fact remains, if something can be free, people will want it to be free over paying any day of the week
