We just live on two different worlds then because I say fuck ethics. If I see a resource whether it is a cheat sheet or someone's else answers, I will take take advantage of it and use it. Being honorable and just gets you nowhere in this world, only the ones who bend the rules survive.

It's not about ethics. It's about accomplishing something on my own without a crutch. I am good enough without having to rely on other people and take a short cut. If you're happy with letting people do the work then go for it. I guess...but this isn't the real world; it's a video game.

for me: Those class nerfs and "chanings" are so pissing me off, I totaly ignore Gauge Bar at like 90%! =_= I do a gauge skill when I want to! >_> On classes like Ninja/Paladin: I dont use Gauge bars at all, becaue the 'reached 100% Gauge' sound is an extremy loud "KBBRRRZZZZZT!1!" As for monks and other classes with Positional atks: I hate and totally ignore them! I really hoped monk would get at least for PVE another STANCE(not a lame 15sec skill with 90sec cd..) that ignores such position crap. Bards dont have that crap too... I mean: Ranged with Bow and Arrow and atk power always the same no matter if enemys is close to you or far away... And uh.. I dont bother with people if they play to wrong or to good. As long they dont Afk Im fine! o_o I dont know these people, that might have a bad or terrible day.. I dont judge!

Arent you happy about BRD tho? You never used wanderes stance in 3.0 you said, since you do more dps without it and could move a lot more? So BRD should been good for you.

I disagree with the bold part wholeheartedly. There are only two DPS in every group. If it's taking forever to kill stuff, then you know one of the DPS is doing it wrong.

Seriously? The expansion has been out for 6 days officially. 10 new levels, new traits, new skills, and drastically changed rotations. Give it time.

To put it simply, a lot of people don't realize that they are doing it wrong. There is no feedback in game other then other players. If another player who plays the same job doesn't say something then they will not change. But, then you get the argument of why is "rotation" (say that loosely as many jobs I have played may have a set opener, but after that it is a prioity system) A verses rotation B better? There is nothing in the game that gives you feedback. Oh you didn't beat the rage timer? How do you know it is the Ninja or the Bard that might be off "rotation" wise? There are of course cases where it is obvious, but what about those cases that are not? How do I know I can do X and get another 100 dps out of it? What is my dps anyways? There are no mods or interface indicators telling me how I am doing.

Then there is the other argument of "You don't pay my sub", but I actually think this argument is rarer then these forums may hint at. I think it is more of a reaction argument because people are more looking for proof or some way to back up why x "rotation" is right, but because again the game doesn't back it up and if the enemy is dying then why should the person making such an argument change? In the end both arguments are the same in that the game doesn't give any feedback other then things not dying, but if you are getting through content then dps will continue not knowing there is a better way to do things.

Well I'm glad SB made BLM rotation actually manageable. I can't speak for other classes but if they had similarly stupid rotations or worse, I wouldn't expect people to be able to execute their rotations perfectly in the heat of combat either. This game has simply ridiculous skill bloat and rotations get kind of dumb for some classes.

MMOs existed before DPS meters. And they were much harder than they are today. I'm also curious if this is a request in the Japanese community as well. I feel like they seem to do fine without them. (Not just this game, but in all East Asian MMOs.)

But to your point, just leveling in this game, I can tell you that it's far easier for me to tell if I or the other DPS is not playing well simply by how the dungeon is flowing. It is a lot different than dungeons in WoW or SWTOR where player power levels are absurdly high, and boss fights last about six seconds. One of the reasons I love FFXIV is that it is the closest to a traditional MMO as you will find in the West today. It takes time to get through dungeons, but if it's taking too long, the DPS is low.

Which is exactly how players used play before the GO, GO, GO gamer and the DPS meter heroes.

How long is "forever", and at what point is it longer than "fast enough"? If said DPS even realizes it, what's to stop them from simply thinking the other DPS sucks instead of themselves? The game gives you very little objective feedback on how well you are doing. Even knowing your own exact DPS isn't so useful if you don't also know how much DPS you should be doing relative to your level/ilevel for your specific job.

For a casual player, succeeding in clearing the dungeon means it's all good. I'm hard-pressed to see a problem with that, from the pov of most players.
