To through numbers out there: lets say I crit on SCH for 5500 heal. That gives the person I healed a 11k shield.
lets say I crit on AST for 5500 heal. That gives the person I healed a 13,750 shield.

So, now AST crit shields are also better than SCH shields who is supposed to be the "shielding" healer. Plus, AST shield is an instant cast.

Is my math wrong? If it isn't, than SE really needs to hire new people to do the number balancing. How can you give a healer who is supposed to be a substitute for either WHM or SCH all around better moves than the jobs they are supposed to be able to fill in for? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!!
Your logic isn't wrong when you speak like you said, however for AST to heal the same as SCH on their shield spell, AST would need to be a higher gear level as they will need higher MD / MND / Det. In order to accurately gauge this properly you need to have assume the stats of both healers are the same. Then after that you need to determine the potency differences because the size of a shield is a function of the HP restored.

Adlo is a 300 potency heal and 300 potency shield.
A.Benefic is a 230 potency heal, there it provides a (230 * 2.5) = 575 potency shield.

When critting you get the following (assuming 1.5 multiplier oncrits)
Adlo = (300 * 1.5) = 450 potency heal so it generates a (450 * 2) = 900 potency shield
AB = (230 * 1.5) = 345 potency heal so it generates a (345 * 2.5) = 862 potency shield
