I'm only comparing BLM and SMN because they are the two magical DPS classes...
If the problems is balance between magical DPS jobs and melee DPS jobs... that's a different kind of balance, but something like that affects both jobs... you don't totally rewrite one of them and nerf it and then boost the other one... that's not balancing Magical DPS jobs against Melee DPS jobs... its balancing them against each other.

But there's more...

'm sure SE's though process involves a bit than "Today we want BLM to be worse than SMN- so lets do that." and more of a question on a classes role in composition.
Why exactly would someone do that?

Did it ever occur to you that's more like a bait and switch... sell them one thing, then snatch it and replace it with something completely different?

And you never thought that was going to torque people off or make them abandon the job they were playing because... that was never what they wanted to play in the first place?

.....or just cause more imbalances than it fixes? Like the Flare Nerf in 3.0?

That's not balance my friend... nor is it somehow stopping "power creep".

It's just pointless rearranging for the sake of rearranging.
