How the game must be played:
Healer heals, Dps does damage, Tank protects the party.
How elitists and pseudo elitist want EVERYONE to play the game:
Healer DPS and sometimes heals, focus on DPS at all times, damage dealer, its ok, do anything you want just be sure to blame the healer for any wipe, Tanks protect the party and most importanlty do DPS, NEVER be in tank stance always dps stance.
FF XIV in a nutshell.
A fair bit of hyperbole there. How the game must be played:

If people have an issue with where SE has taken the game (that being a place where you dont need to be constantly healing) thats fine, but don't sit there and tell me you can't see why or disagree with people that just want players to play their role optimally and for healers and tanks you can 100% layer damage in between your heals/aggro. Yes it's more work and yes you are a healer and not a dps, but if you want to play your role at its best then you need to be dpsing.
Link one post, just one, that says tanks and healers should ONLY focus on DPS. I'll wait. How the game must be played:

I have issue with people expecting more then a breathing human on the other end of the duty finder. They are random pugs that don't know you and don't care about you. If they can string three buttons together and you can clear the instance count it as a win. If you want a higher quality of player pick people you actually know and stop using the duty finder. If people have an issue with where SE has taken the game (that being a place where you dont need to be constantly healing) thats fine, but don't sit there and tell me you can't see why or disagree with people that just want players to play their role optimally and for healers and tanks you can 100% layer damage in between your heals/aggro. A little side tracked(guilty as well). I think the OP was more talking about actual game design hence "we are all DD". Not if people can actually play to a certain skill level.
My sentiments exactly.I have issue with people expecting more then a breathing human on the other end of the duty finder. They are random pugs that don't know you and don't care about you. What defines an elitist in this game? It would seem anyone who cares to get better or play optimally is considered one.
What do we call the other stubborn players who decide to live within their own bubble in an MMO?
Where is the line drawn in this case? Is finishing a dungeon in 90 minutes ok for you? Is any player only using 1 ability throughout the content ok? Honestly wondering.
I personally expect everyone to actively participate and be willing to put some effort when they're doing group content. To me it's same as participating in any group hobby stuff like playing in a football team or singing in a choir: everyone is expected to play (or sing) their part. This doesn't of course mean expecting optimal (or anywhere near) performance: simply active participation and good attitude.
See I understand where you're coming from, but you're also one of these people perpetuating this idea that it's completely fine to be a lazy player in a dungeon. It's not. Yeah I can clear a PotD run but if it takes me 35 minutes because I have a whm and ast who have 0 interest in doing any damage I'm going to be annoyed. I won't say anything because I don't want to get reported for harassment, but you best believe I want to call them a fucking potato.
Get a brain and do your damn job. If you've not yet learned how to heal and dps at the same time that's understandable because you dont know your limits well enough yet or you're new to a certain dungeon, but every healer and tank should aspire to keep improving their dps.
I'm actually so sick of people calling others elitist just because they want to be able to roll their face over their keyboard hitting keys in any combination and have nobody say anything to them.
