You'd be right if we had pre-established codes of conduct pertaining to loot handed down by SE. That would have been the etiquette. Unfortunately, we all pop into a default loot set DF with our unsaid guidelines and then expect our peers to be somehow already informed of it.

And when we finally do say something? Ooh boy, that's a whole another can of worms but at least there's actual merit discussing "etiquette" when it happens.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

I always roll greed unless it is literally something I can use for my job because I don't feel it's fair that I get to horde an item that someone else may actually need. If they come out and say "hey I'm not on that job and I need X item", I will pass it.

If it is another player the same job as me, again, I will just 'greed' or 'pass' if I know they actually need it, and I don't.

I still don't really get this. I mean, so does everyone else? Not rolling need doesn't mean passing. If you roll greed, then everyone who participated in the boss kill gets a chance at the loot.

Sure, but that would only really work if the favor was returned on other bosses.

I mean, that's the unspoken etiquette for loot in every other MMO I've ever played, so...

That's a pretty nice system, unfortunately that's NOT the case where I came from (WoW). In fact they had to go so far as to make loot personal because people would need roll on things that were not even usable by their class/spec. :P Despite these occassional disagreements on need/greed, the system (for the most part) works well here, IMHO.

That's not actually why they made personal loot. People weren't able to roll need on anything not for their class/spec from Cata onward - the game UI made it literally impossible. Personal loot was first introduced in their LFR system and they decided that a system where you always get something (either gold or loot) would be better than rolling against other players.

You most certainly *could* roll on things (not everything), but trinkets/rings/necks were still open roll until Warlords.

    edit: corrected xpac

As a priest, I could not roll NEED on something that was mail, leather, or plate from Cata onward.

Also, rolling need on stuff that wasn't appropriate for your spec was frowned upon by the general WoW community. There were some instances where people did so anyway, yes, but it was not considered the "appropriate" thing to do. Greed was also the general rule for stuff if you didn't need it as an upgrade, even if it was your armor type.
