Unless someone else is one the same job as me, I need on stuff, either for upgrade, seals, desynth, glamour etc.

If someone is on the same job, and they look like they need an upgrade I consider passing if I don't need the upgrade.

If they're not on the same job, I don't really care XD I deserve loot for the run too!

I still don't really get this. I mean, so does everyone else? Not rolling need doesn't mean passing. If you roll greed, then everyone who participated in the boss kill gets a chance at the loot.

Sure, but that would only really work if the favor was returned on other bosses.

I mean, that's the unspoken etiquette for loot in every other MMO I've ever played, so...

That's a pretty nice system, unfortunately that's NOT the case where I came from (WoW). In fact they had to go so far as to make loot personal because people would need roll on things that were not even usable by their class/spec. :P Despite these occassional disagreements on need/greed, the system (for the most part) works well here, IMHO.

That's not actually why they made personal loot. People weren't able to roll need on anything not for their class/spec from Cata onward - the game UI made it literally impossible. Personal loot was first introduced in their LFR system and they decided that a system where you always get something (either gold or loot) would be better than rolling against other players.

You most certainly *could* roll on things (not everything), but trinkets/rings/necks were still open roll until Warlords.

    edit: corrected xpac

But one cant just simply expect the rules from one MMO to go over to other MMOs. Maybe in those you could only get better equipment through dungeon runs so it makes sense that you should only roll onto the item if you need it for an upgrade. In FF14 you have way more ways to gear up so its not necessary to get the dungeon gear. Also not everyone might have played other MMOs or something.

Just dont expect other peoples to follow some unseen unknown code of etiquette that is not even necessary in this game, especially since the system itself shows people that they can loot it if its from their job so why should we just not do it the intended way? (I remember the discussion about hunts where Yoshida and his team wanted it to be more about a group of people finding it and killing it and not the thing it turned out where people are verbally attacked if they dont wait till even the last person of the server is there. This just shows how bad this self-made etiquette can go imo.) I am also quite sure that most people would simply pass on their loot if someone else truly needs it for gearing or even glamour, so one simple question at the beginning of the dungeon should be enough most of the time.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
