Japan player here, been playing on Hyperion with really no issues from Tokyo since XIV restarted with ARR. My previous pings were ~280-320 and now:

I suppose this is good, but I was fine before the move. Never really had any issue with lag... (Home ISP in Tokyo is OCN via NTT, same as what you guys call FIOS in the states)

i read it's a move too a larger data center to accomodate SB. The old center wasnt big enough..

Yeah I just noticed the odd bouncing being done to Netherlands and Spain. Hopefully Squeenix reads the forums and manages to fix this problem before servers come up.

FWIW, from western Canada it doesn't do any odd hops. Not sure that's worth anything because we're located very close to the apparent location. My tracert from Vancouver only goes through Seattle and San Jose before arriving at Sacramento.

That's an ISP problem not a FF problem.

190-200 ms ping has significant GCD clipping and, in XIV's case, tends also to have a high amount of missed commands/inputs. If you'd played at sub-90 ms for a while and then went back, trust me, it would indeed leave a very bitter taste to your gameplay. There is, however, virtually no difference once under 80 ms ping, as that point you're only being held back by internal cooldowns (animation times), which would be just as significant if you were somehow playing entirely client side / single-player.

That's all the individual nodes in the system trying to slowly correct their information. I wouldn't be surprised if the traceroute went to the International Space Station...

Yeah, part of the reason I think they are talking about more inventory space also.

They're definitely changing stuff- now I'm getting routed through Texas and the connection's getting dropped there. Wish I had huge tub of popcorn while waiting to see how this plays out... also neolobby2.ffxiv.com is listed as 92.242.140.21. Wish my networking courses had spent less time on the theoretical and more on the practical- this stuff is fascinating.

It's really hard for me to give out a lot of information about her situation because she really lives in such a small town. I can say it is Canada and it is northern Ontario. The area only has one ISP and has needed upgrades to their internet services for many years now. I don't think they've actually ever upgraded anything since they got internet up there in the early 2000's.
