So.....exactly like what EU players have been subject too?.....They can either leave their friends for better ping, or stay with worse ping....

They can split the worlds 50/50 and give notice some months prior and enable free transfers for everyone in NA. You can decide with your friends and FCs where to go or stay. But there will be again ppl who will whine like always. If se decides to have 2 data centers, 1 on east coast, and another on west coast, how is it going to work though? Which worlds will be in data center 1 or 2? It will still be the same problem in the end though? Like say Gilgamesh on east coast, and Balmung on west coast, what is going to happen to the people who live on the east and west but on those worlds?
I don't see it happening anytime soon. They already spent money to open the new one. Can't see how they will budget one more right now. Maybe when 5.0 comes.

I had not tested before the move, however the game seems to run smoother now for me (Central Canada)

How about no
The previous server was 3008 miles from my house according to google maps. 115 ms ping.
The new server is 280 miles from my house according to google maps. 80 ms ping.
New server with WTFast: 25 ms ping.
See where the larger difference is? *Nudge, nudge*
Admittedly though, I figured the move would be to somewhere like to get something like Denver, Chicago, Kansas City, Houston, or Dallas. Not... to one corner of the supported area. Also, SA servers and added localization support any time soon?...Annnd here's hoping that improvements to net code may shave off a bit of the effect, in my case enough to play on the JP servers if I wish, now that I have a new NA server on my doorstep. Cus why not? Need my language practice.

That's Silicon Valley for you. Someone obviously went to town during the bidding phase for the server contracts and SE being a JP company that's clearly clueless about where California actually is picked the best presented, economically viable option.
If they knew where California is and did it anyway well, I don't have words. Either that or they are banking hard on new OCE players coming into the game now that the server is in Western NA.
You people can't take a joke.
Also fuma is clipping now, god it's so bad.

been playing with my VPN, looks like approx 90ms is the best I can doand that's routing directly thru chicago to the west coast.

So I see many people made the threads already. So I am chiming in too for the devs to see.
I was CONSTANTLY at 50-56ms ping out of Virginia.
Server moved. I am now in the 95-125ms
While I have no intentions of leaving. I will comment I feel pretty disappointed over this change and would vote too to be more centralized.

From 90+ with 10-15% packet loss to 27-30 with 0% packet loss
