So what's more important, continuing the formula that has been successful so far, or focusing on a somewhat popular feature that most players don't heavily focus on, even if they participate in the content on some level.

You can't focus heavily on housing in this game because there is almost nothing to do with it. The customization is extremely limited. The supply is extremely limited. The "extra" features are time-consuming and monotonous, or only available to people with FC housing. Heck, it's even difficult to decorate what you have because decor is ridiculously expensive. That's like making a crap sandwich and then deciding it's not worth improving the sandwich because nobody is liking it much anyway. The extreme popularity of good housing systems in other games makes it beyond clear that this would be a worthwhile investment of time and money.

Here's a baffling question for you disregarding the fairness of the demolition period, if everyone wants instanced housing so much, regardless of size, why does barely anyone get apartments?

Apartments are even smaller with a stupidly small item limit. As someone who greatly enjoys housing in WildStar, why would I even bother getting an apartment in this game? Although it has no demolition timer, it's even more limited than the individual houses.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, there's no yard space and apartments also lack the ability to garden (crossing plants). For the time it took to get them, people were really expecting the dev team to bring something unique to the table. When people want instanced housing I think most are looking to have both inside and outside space along with the ability to upgrade their plots.

Yes and no. Apartments have sold out on larger servers, but I suspect people dislike them as a solution because they're basically a FC room.

You did not read what I said.

I did read what you said, but you don't know what you're talking about, multiple instances do not take the same resources server side.

This is where your confusion is coming from, we're talking about server resources, not client resources. Of course your client will not load every single zone in RAM if you're not there, but there server is loading them as long as it's running, wards are treated the same as any regular zone, while the inside of houses is recreated and deleted as you enter/exit. This is why instanced housing is superior, this is why there's no actual limit of FC rooms, you can have 512 rooms x number of houses in a server.

Fixed for you, and we both know why they are sold out in Balmung, and only there out of every single NA server. Even Gilgamesh has free apartments everywhere.

Balmung is the only NA server with sold out apartments, there are thousands of apartments left in Sargatanas, I just did a quick check in less than 5 mins.

Right. Now think about this from the devs' perspective.

The same devs that already said that its completely fine to take breaks and the same devs that once said that such a timer would never come and also the same devs that created this system that was always going to be quite limited. And the problem is not only the sub (well in OP case it is) but people can be subbed all the time but if they have no way to log in the game they will still lose their house. So you are paying them the money and yet lose it. That for me is the most bad point of this timer. So they not only went against their own words..no they just hit us twice by needing to log in too. (And just for the record, I dont plan to take a long break or anything but I also know how fast things can happen in real life too and how bad it can turn fast)

Only thing I would say should change is, anyone you add to your personal house resets the timer.

A 100% this. At least let us make use of the function of having people living with you. This could be a good way to at least make the situation with the timer a bit better. So people if they know that they will take a break or will be away longer, can just pay their sub in advance (if you are in the hospital others could pay the sub) and talk to your friends before that, they will visit your house for you. (You know kinda like the FC housing already functions..)
