    Prepared for "Machinist Syndrome"?

    So out of boredom....

Have you prepared yourself for the possibility of Samurai and/or Red Mage facing a "Machinist syndrome"?

"Machinist Syndrome" is basically a Job has been built up with hype for years and people have certain expectations for this Job only to be disappointed and driven away from the Job reach a point the Job becomes one of the lowest or is the lowest played Job in the game.

I think they've had more time to work on red mage and samurai than they did trying to shoehorn 3 jobs into HW on top of ninja's release, so I don't think we'll see this happening.

I don't care what RDM is actually like, there is literally no way to mess it up as long as they stick to the basic idea of the class, a jack or all trade style. It's basically what makes RDM an RDM. Be kinda hard for them to mess it up, even for Square.
As for Sam, that is another story. I see it just being a Dark style with more focus on the sword then the dark magic. I don's see it being like the Sam we remember in FFXI. In my opinion THAT is the Job we need to worry about.

Why did they add machinist instead of muskeeter?

I was actually hyped for muskeeter. I didn't want automations and cast bars and bard buffs and stuff, I just wanted a gun job without bells and whistles.

As for the thread - I've already accepted that red mage won't heal or support and will just be another flavour of dialing phone numbers to deal damage. I'm ok with that; just want to be free from the pain of being a gimped black mage.

If they don't have some sword skills they are just plain dumb, as for the healing thing. In some way they might have a healing spell, as i said they are a jack of all trade style. Always have been since back in FF3 to change that now would just royally P everyone off.

    Their role is Ranged DPS.
They will have both Ranged and Melee attacks. But I guess they will mostly have Ranged ones since its basic role is Ranged DPS.
As for healing skills, I doubt they'll get any since it's a DPS class. Maybe they'll get a self heal like some other DPS classes.

So I dunno how much of a "jack of all trade" the RDM will be.

    Edit:

Remember that the Dark Knight was a DPS class in FFXI and the Samurai was a Tank.
So don't be surprised if they change things up for the RDM aswell.

Well they do mention its a cross with White and Dark magic so maybe a healing just unique to them or something like Cura or Curega.
But your right Dark was a DPS in FFXI, the Sam being a Tank, not so sure. I only ever seen people using it as a DPS. Still as i said we should be more worried about Sam, not much they can do to mess up RDM.

Considering Yoshi P said that both adding a job mid game and 3 jobs during the expansion nearly killed the team. We don't have to worry about either of those things, I think think your worries are misplaced.

I can only realistically see them getting a token healing spell like clemency, if anything.

    Here's
their preview if you haven't seen it.

I'm sure that they'll have sword based abilities but I think it'll be a small part of their rotation since they'll take the role of casters like black mages and summoners. So a caster having to be in close range for long periods of time wouldn't fit this game's encounter design (I hope I'm wrong though!)

I think they'll have a healing cooldown "just to say" that they can do everything, but I don't expect something like Clemency to be honest.

As for pissing everyone off I think they already did that with dark knight and summoner so I'm not building up too many expectations. I'd love it if red mage have a lot of options though, that's what makes a job fun to me and why I play a scholar.

Some times I think that red mage would fit better as a healer since we don't need to have our DPS perfectly balanced. So you could have stances like Caster Stance where you DPS with black magic, Fencer Stance where you DPS like a melee and Staff Weaver Stance where you cast white magic.

Wait, is the thread about DPS performance? If so then I'm arguing about the wrong thing
