Out of personal curiosity having never played WoW - are there any remotely platformy elements of WoW's gameplay? Any attacks you can evade with a well-timed jump? I know in Aion jumping made sense because it was usually done in order to catch an updraft, as it were, and start flying; the game zone design was wonderfully three-dimensional rather than planar (at least in the areas where air travel was a routine thing). Is there a -reason- for jumping to exist in WoW? (And more immediately relevant, is there a reason for it to exist in XIV? They killed the annoying terrain stuck-on-an-ankle-high-ridge, and even made it so you can walk right up some fairly steep cliffs - which, frankly, makes the "jumping ruins my immersion" complaint seem a little silly - so is there any actual reason from it other than people not being able to bound around like lunatics? Obviously "they could design 2.0 zones to be platformy and three-dimensional", which I wouldn't particularly like from a playability / design perspective, but ridiculous defiance of physics is -definitely- an FF standby, and even at my grumpiest I think it'd be kinda fun, so it's not like it'd ruin my enjoyment of the game.)

I mean, given their stated love of positioning being a strategic Thing, I can see crazy battles with dynamic battlefields or something actually being a possibility, having to jump from platform to platform or etc. I'm undecided on whether that's a game I actively want to play, but...

(Basically what I'm wondering is is there any reason people want jumping other than "other MMOs have it" and "I want to be a bunny rabbit" and "I want PvP to be irritating". Swimming, though? Dear /Twelve/, yes. That would be beyond awesome.)
