SE Please add jump and swiming

Just as the title says. Swimming will add something different to the walk and press auto attack tone of the game. Jump will be cool for like the ifrit battle when he puts cracks on the ground. It be cool to see you party jumping full force away from danger rather then Jogging away from death. (if i had to escape death i would be a little more in a hurry).

Point is add some diversity. Swimming would have a whole different (be of course similar) battle system. You have high ceilings to swim up to. hidden caves and you can have lots of quests to get a key item to breath underwater and an underwater battle with Leviathan sounds awesome. I mean he is a fish with no legs so fightng him in an instance like ifrit sounds silly but W/E.

I think Yoshia has great ideas for different types of content and the ff11 players are really messing it up for everyone. (i played ff11 for 5-6 years i love the game but come on people a jump feature does not break the game)

    Your thoughts!

    They add it.
Not now, but in the future
RPGSite: Last question… what core mechanics—if any—are being drawn from western MMO developers? Such as the option to do things like swimming and jumping?
Yoshida: I’m a very hardcore gamer, and one of the first things when I got onto FFXIV was that I wanted to add a jump feature. When I threw that out to the community, what surprised me was that a lot of players were against that idea. Their complaint was that you shouldn’t be able to jump in a FINAL FANTASY game!
Just because it’s in all the other MMOs, does it fit with the image of FINAL FANTASY? For example, people didn’t want to see Lalafells jumping all around.
Personally, I don’t like the fact that my character is bound to the ground, so I definitely want to add a jump feature.

RPGSite: That’s interesting because they added a jump option to XIII-2, and I haven’t seen much negative reaction to that.
Yoshida: Everyone probably wouldn’t mind if their character could jump, but maybe there’s a lot of people who just don’t want to see everyone else jumping!
A lot of the Japanese players of XIV that only know about that game as well as FFXI, so they’re used to having a character that can’t jump. They don’t realize that you can jump in every other MMO in the world, so they have that aversion to it.

It’s not only Japan though. If you look at our forums, there are a lot of people, even in North America, who don’t want the jumping feature.

As for swimming, it would to be something that wasn’t just swimming. If we were going to put this in the game, we would want to make it a part of the game. For example, swimming to certain dungeons to do things, battles in water, etc. While this isn’t something we could put in for 2.0, it might be something we consider for the next expansion pack. We’d make sure that it would have something worthwhile.
We do have the swim suits, so they have to be good for something, right?

In Final Fantasy Leviathan is generally a floating serpent (not necessarily a fish perse) and whenever people bring up "realism", they get slammed with "THIS IS A FANTASY GAME", so nothing is wrong with fighting a floating Leviathan, that's fantasy as well as how he generally is in past games.

No playerbase is ruining anything -- People use that as an excuse because they can't deal with the fact not everyone wants to see FFXIV being the same tired old MMORPG that gets release almost 10 times a year. Every MMO ends up the same. People refer to FFXI because not only is it in the same series ) but it also had all the basics and a very good foundation it could have built off of, which even Yoshida refers to in some interviews how a lot of changes will "be like how it was in XI" as an example, because it's simply another MMORPG they've created before.

However, it seems like people want XIV to be another generic MMORPG, which is cool, but with the flood of other generic MMORPGs coming out, it'll be hard pressed to say that XIV offers anything new and unique when people want it to play like every other MMO out there. The only difference would be you could switch jobs and classes at will, which other MMOs are starting to incorporate (Eden Eternal).

Even then, Yoshida said it would be something that wouldn't happen for a very long time, and they honestly have bigger things to worry about (the main argument against it, by the way) than jumping and swimming, the game is fundamentally flawed, not flawed by being held by a playerbase.

This is what i made this thread for. This interview here. He is not adding it now because of all the bitching in these forums. I hope other cool things they add do not get put on hold because of narrowminded people.

I think it's not because the bitching but because FF XIV need the new engine for this, which we get with 2.0 and not earlier.

I'm not seeing swimming as likely, but jumping has been taken into consideration.

I think jumping would be kind of silly, but I'm okay with it as long as Lalafell have truly outrageous, absurdly acrobatic jumping animations such that they can jump at -least- as high as a Roegadyn can. I want to see backflips, midair twirls, in-air poses.

Instead of slandering a playerbase, you should probably read Yoshida's words and other developer's musings -- They can't add a lot of stuff because of poor server infrastructure as well as a falty foundation.

That has nothing to do with what MMORPGs someone plays.

After reading this I'm not sure if you are against or for jumping/swimming :S .... But anyways as for the part of being generic, having a lack of features that others MMORPGS have does not make you unique, just inferior. While not having Jumping and swimming does not break or make a game, it does prevent you from having content and gameplay aspects the competition has and that in marketing is a weakness no matter how you see it.
