No it doesn't. The game has to be designed for it to "add something to it", and just about every MMO but a few actually makes use of the mechanic other than making it animation.
This is an opinion.What doesn't add something to the game is the restricted rank system,
At the very least it adds an animation so you aren't vertically walking up and down sheer cliff faces. (If you played the game you'd know what I'm taking about.)
It also let's you jump down from ledges (which presently create a huge annoyance despite the fact that they have tried their hardest to alleviate this issue).
It also adds the sense that you aren't unrealistically tethered to the ground like a muppet.
So even at the very least it is still adding something to the game.
And so is wanting the game to be a clone of FFXI. The difference is my opinion isn't stupid.This is an opinion.
Indeed, which no one wants a clone of XI, but it would be pretty blind to say that they shouldn't have built on the foundation of XI and took it further as they had access to better technology and more experience, XIV compared to XI was and is viewed in the light they learned "nothing" between 2 MMORPGs prior to it.
I do play the game actually, but thanks for trying.(If you played the game you'd know what I'm taking about.)
I can most certainly attest that she does play the game. >.>;At the very least it adds an animation so you aren't vertically walking up and down sheer cliff faces. (If you played the game you'd know what I'm taking about.)

That and there's really no 'jumping up' the cliff or 'jumping down'. It's more like sliding up or down, or simply, just walking up and down the cliff.
I would only support jump (and swimming) if the game map were actually designed for it. Clearly FFXIV is not designed for it.

That sliding up and down cliffs is the problem. Did you miss that the entire world is being redesigned?I can most certainly attest that she does play the game. >.>;

Which from what I remember, they stated was pretty much temporary regardless. There's still a ton of barriers on all axis, which means they could very much make it likely when you jump you still won't be able to jump down cliff faces, or jump over ledges.
Even in Rift the jump gets wonky at times (not as much anymore, but it still wonky in some instances.)
Yes. That's why I said the game isn't designed for it. Maybe FFXIV 2.0 will be designed for it. But at this point, it is clearly moot to add jump and swim, when it really serves no purpose. When it does serve a purpose, then I'll support it.

I don't mind so much about jumping but i would like to see swimming with content in the future (hidden underwater places, unique combat, underwater dungeons).
Yes there is. the reason is that invisible walls and absurd limitations are archaic and greatly holding this game back.
