I wonder why they started being so quiet about jumping. They are the ones who stated it was being considered in the first place, then they said it was moved to lower priority and finally they completely shup up about it, even when asked countless times if it was still being considered. It's like we asked when it will be or that we absolutely demanded to have it. We just wanted to know if it was still in their plans or not but they refuse to answer and i find that odd.
either they decided not to add it and want to keep it on the low to avoid upsetting the players who were looking fwd to it or they decided to add it but want to wait until they can show us how it will work so not to upset the other half who were totaly against it.
That being said, swimming was already confirmed as a possibility for a future expansion in the thread below.

What else is to say? They said they are adding jumping already, I think some people are just forgetting the fact. It is something we will most likely see with the launch of 2.0. As for swimming, it is something we may see after that.I wonder why they started being so quiet about jumping. instead of jumping all i want is a situational jump prompt for environments (ala FF13) and a rolling dodge/sidestep feature similar to monster hunter. that's all I want. I can't speak for anyone else.

I'm not a huge fan of the free jumping system. If they add a jump mechanic, it should be as previously suggested; a prompt to get up and down sizable cliffs or to jump off ledges.
Swimming is irrelevant because the game was not designed for it. Where are you going to swim? Limsa? For what purpose? You have nowhere to go except to float around like a boob.

Yoshi-P said that swimming, if added, would be for actual underwater content, which would be really cool, I think. And like he said, why do we even have swimsuits if we can't even swim!?Originally Posted by RPGSite
As for swimming, it would to be something that wasn’t just swimming. If we were going to put this in the game, we would want to make it a part of the game. For example, swimming to certain dungeons to do things, battles in water, etc. While this isn’t something we could put in for 2.0, it might be something we consider for the next expansion pack. We’d make sure that it would have something worthwhile.
I am happy that he is looking at the larger picture when thinking of things to add, there are some people that want this game to stay exactly as it is... Which won't be happening since they are trying to turn this game around, adding some things from other games won't hurt. They are simply adding new features into the world of Final Fantasy XIV, it is still Final Fantasy XIV. When I think of things that define a Final Fantasy, I don't think "we'll it's a Final Fantasy because it doesn't have this, this, and this" - it is the story and the world and the monsters, the beauty and the thoughts and emotions it evokes. Being able to jump or swim wouldn't ruin that for me. If it would ruin it for anyone, I don't think they are a real fan.Originally Posted by RPGSite

This pretty much, I don't see the point in adding these two unless it's very specific. Meaning moving to a ledge where a jump animation brings you from a to b, with this you have function and moderation.I'm not a huge fan of the free jumping system. If they add a jump mechanic, it should be as previously suggested; a prompt to get up and down sizable cliffs or to jump off ledges.

I want jumping. My thumb is very trigger happy on that space bar.
Yeah, swimming's the sort of thing they'd have to deliberately build zones around.
Which: This game will have expansions someday, Twelve willing, so...![]()
