You seem to base your opinion upon the idea that gear is ONLY needed for stat-progression when we already mentioned that that isnt true.
With everyone being able to roll "need" (or greed) on an item it lowers your chance to actually get an item you're looking for, you realise that, yes? Because you're not only on the mercy of said item dropping but also rolling against up to 7 other people for it - with the current system you wont have any competition most of the time (safe maybe for dps and heals in the 24-man-raids, but we werent talking about those anyways) - dungeons are normally trying not to pair you up with the same sort of dps.

So... when you wanted to advocate for OPs request you did a pretty bad job... and even if you didnt I dont consider your solution a viable one. Right now I can go into a dungeon and be sure that I will get certain gear IF it drops instead of having a 25% chance. Even for dps, who can, in theory, get paired with the same class again and have a 50% chance, this would suck - so who excatly would benefit here?

So you want to have both ways to your convenience?
Pick one and stick with it.

You have the option to make your lotting life more convenient as well. Play as the job you want the gear on. The end.

You mean because I mentioned both need and greed? I only did that because the way you want the "need"-option to change it would actually be closer to greed - I might aswell have left one out or called it "nreed"

So... you're telling me you wont be looking for a specific item for stat-progression? Like how I made up my mind and went into Dun Scaith on my tank because I wanted the tank-legs?

But you are, ofc, very welcome to just nitpick on that and ignore the whole rest of my statment in which I pointed out that introducing "nreed" wouldnt benefit anyone.

    If the idea is:
    (i) based on your feedback (see posts #182, #189, #190 and quote links - http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...yers%21/page19)
    AND
    (ii) is stupid
then I have no problem with that.

Not when you claim by yourself (besides others here - bardaboo is a fine example) that stat progression is a non-issue.

    *sigh*
I didnt meant to say its a non-issue, I meant to say: its not the only issue... besides you might also want to roll on class-specific-gear for glamour-reasons, so right now you go in with the class you want the piece for so you can roll need on it, should it drop. With the current system you're going to roll against ONE other person if you're unlucky (and not in a 24-man-raid), with YOUR idea you would be rolling against THREE people no matter what.
Wether we keep the current system or change it to need-only, RNG will always be involved - except that the current system allows you to secure items should they drop and not be on the complete mercy of the dice. So I really dont see the benefit of your idea - here, mind made up enough for you?
