The unique take on old English is an example of world-building at it's most basic, it's to show that Hydaelyn is not our Earth, it's it's own unique world with it's own cultures, history and yes, languages. Also language is more than just letters, it's how the words are spoken, the syntax and grammar and the context of words and phrases. It just would not make sense if Hydaelyn's inhabitants all spoke in modern lingo and perfect Queen's English, as it would just look ridiculous in the setting. It's a way to immerse the player in Hydaelyn's culture.

Besides, it's well known J.R.R Tolkien did the same with his Middle Earth works, he actually started with language first and created the world around the fictitious languages of the various Middle Earth races he created for his own amusement, so the world rings true. It's much the same here, how language is used gives the world a foundation to be laid on and develop from.

I appreciate the work the loc team does, and honestly adore most of the dialogue in game.

Of course, I'm the kind of person who actually says "pray tell" on occasion.

Then it's not the 'original' audio. As I said in the quote, this isn't like any other JRPG where the game comes out in Japan first and is then translated-localised.

The Japanese version is the original material that's why there's an English localization team translating the game.

There is no 'original'. I recall the dev team stating that the localization teams work together to form the plot and the dialogue, which could mean that the origin could have been English, or French, or German, or Japanese. Many terms are taken from English and localised into Japanese. Heck, the script of FFXIV is based off English. The Japanese version is as original as any of the others as they are developed at the same time. As a company, SE is centred at Japanese, but that has no effect on the plot, audio or teams when they are working as cohesively internationally as the FFXIV developers are.

You're mistaken. The Japanese script isn't any more "original" than the English script because both are worked on at the same time collaboratively.

I've never been a fan of fakesperian localization, I can understand it but it comes across as really forced, only two games I've played that I think works really well is Final Fantasy XII and Vagrant Story ironically both being set in Ivalice. I mean the amount of times you heard the word succor during 2.0-2.55 was silly, felt like the localization team were playing a game to see how many times they could put in random sentences.

I think 3.0 got a bit better with the shakesperian talk but I'm way too used to playing it in Japanese now that I can't switch back.

Balthier isn't nearly as bad as Urianger, they're not even comparable.

Because the dialogue is different then in the original.

Yeah its great that you have the option to completely change the language of the game but I feel bad for the people who can't understand or speak Japanese and are unhappy with the translation.
